"He just fixed it!! A very nice man. Came, looked at central vacuum determined the problem and fixed it. No sales pitch no telling me how old the machine was and that it would soon need to be replaced. He also checked all filters and said was. Good"

"Purchased the Angie's deal coupon for $250 for full HVAC cleaning and all vents and returns.  During cleaning they found some black mold and recommended deep cleaning for additional $250.  They showed us pics of where the mold and other dirty stuff was and we decided to have them clean it since I doubt duct cleaning was ever performed for this house.  We were satisfied with the result.  The cleaner was prompt and explained everything in detail.  We were satisfied with the service.

"We've had generally positive experiences with McCrea. In July we had an issue with our secondary A/C unit - a minisplit that was leaking into the room. $109 for the technician to come out. When they came, the repair was small - clearing a drainage line. Called back within 30 days because the leak did not resolve, McCrea said they would send someone back out, no charge. We had some challenges and rescheduling, leading to a misunderstanding that we would be charged for a technician having to return. On that basis, I left some negative reviews online - to which McCrea responded, reaching out via phone to set an appointment for a technician to come out. Two technicians came today and spent a good deal of time fixing our initial issue. They went above an beyond in fixing the unit, remounting, and appropriately sealing the unit to the wall. On the basis of this, I'm changing my review of working with McCrea to a 5-star experience. Some miscommunication happened on both ends - we're all human - but their willingness to make things right really shows a business that values integrity. Would use again."

"I contacted Sean to repair my aging HVAC system. Although I have very little knowledge of HVAC, Sean was able to identify, explain, and plan the maintenance of my current system in language I understood and that seemed reasonable. Sean was very responsive via text during our scheduling and I'm happy with the expert level of detail he showed during inspection. I would highly recommend working with him or his team. Update: Sean came back out to resolve my filtration issues and also fixed some other problems that he noticed in the process without increasing the negotiated price. Again, Iâ m extremely satisfied with the work heâ s done and would recommend him for your HVAC needs."

Small jobs welcome

"Chase did a great job repairing a failed pipe that splashed water into our home. He carefully examined every aspect of the problem, determined what needed to be done, fixed the problem and tested the pipes to make sure everything worked -- and all of this at a very reasonable price. We've been using PipeWorks for several years to deal with plumbing issues and they've provided great service at reasonable rates. We'll continue to contact them when we have a plumbing problem."

"Fully explained the process to me. Patiently listened to and answered all my questions. Did exactly what they said they would do. At the time they came out our a/c system was broken, still is when I write this review but a new one is scheduled to be put in next week. They explained that when we turned the new a/c system on that we should watch the filter for eat least the first month as some remaining debris left in the ducts might show in the filter and that if it looked dirty to us to call them up and they would come back out and run through the ducts again. My husband saw some of the ducts before they were cleaned and said they looked terrible. The gentlemen they sent out to do the work (two man team) said that the ducts were just over 70% blocked. Considering our ducts had not been cleaned in well over 15 years I wasn't surprised but REALLY impressed and pleased with how they came out after. They also cleaned out our dryer vent and bathroom vent fan area and my husband said they did a great job of that as well! There was barely any dirt left around the vents when they left. Maybe a bit here and there, I am a little picky about that, but nothing to really speak of. They vacuumed up the majority of it before they left so it was just the little bits they missed. Also with the way they sealed all the vents before they started the job my husband said there wasn’t much to speak of anyway. All in all very pleased and will consider having them back out again to keep the ducts clean (no 15 year gaps between cleanings anymore LOL). Will update review if necessary if we need them to come back out after the new a/c system is installed."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.

It can be difficult to know right away if your central vacuum is clogged since it operates quietly compared to regular vacuums. However, there are a couple of signs you can look for. If you feel like it’s losing suction or isn’t cleaning effectively, then there’s likely a clog somewhere.

Make sure you turn the vacuum on and feel the end of the hose handle. If you don’t feel any suction, then you’re dealing with a clog in the hose. You can see if the clog is further down in the system by attaching the hose to each outlet until you find the one with the least amount of suction.

If your central vacuum has lost suction, you probably have a clog in the system. You can remove a clog yourself using a portable vacuum cleaner or central vacuum maintenance sheets. Stubborn clogs or damage to the system require a specialized technician to repair.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

Regular cleaning, sealing, and inspections help identify problems early and maintain aesthetics.
