"We have hired many contractors over the years, and don't recall any who have been nearly as exceptional in every way as Dave and his team. Both my wife and I cannot recommend D&R more highly."

"Kelvin Funes, owner of KF Remodeling is a very experienced contractor in all aspects of home building and remodeling. They have done four jobs for me this year from Feb to July of 2025. Jobs included; shower/bathroom, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and painting. Some were major plumbing and installation of wired smoke detectors. Not easy but Kelvin always tells me his job is to solve problems. And he does. Twice I needed to call him back to handle small over looked items and he returned promptly to handle them. Kelvin's knowledge, experience, and advice contributed greatly to the success of my projects, I am impressed and well pleased. Thank you KF Remodeling."

"We were forced to fire another contractor who had been hired to remodel our kitchen but abandoned the project. Kevin, the owner, came in, put together a plan, and got done in 6 weeks what the other guys hadn't managed in 6 months. His crew showed up on time every morning as scheduled, and they were extremely nice as well. We will be forever grateful that we have somewhere to eat once again."

"Went wonderful with the contractor. They were great to work with and helped us navigate a very troublesome insurance company. They drove from northern Virginia to silver spring to do the work as well, not any easy task and a long commute in traffic. They were just great."

"No one showed up on the proposed date to perform the work. I received a call about a week later to set up an appointment for what I thought had already been scheduled for the week prior. Additionally, my requests for pictures of the contractor's work were not answered. On a positive note, per my request, the contractor provided an estimate for mulching which was not included as a part of the Angie's List deal."

"I have used Water Oak LLC as my handy man and renovation contractor during the past 5 years. They have completed major restoration/renovations to interior rooms, have done some roofing/gutter/drainspout work, and have painted both interior and exterior areas. All work has been excellent and accomplished at what I feel was a fair price."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, most services include necessary frame modifications for proper door fitting. Confirm with your provider.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.

A cross brace for a fence gate should stretch from the top corner of the gate’s hinge side to the bottom corner of its latch side at a 45-degree angle to the bottom of the gate. This positioning distributes the bulk of the gate’s weight to the base of the post, taking pressure off the top hinge.
