"We had a great experience with the Lux Renovations and Owens Corning team. The whole process was very easy from designing the space, selecting colors, and having a contract manager who organized the entire basement remodel including all the trades and inspections. We were sold on the Owens Corning materials for the basement and that they were engineered specifically for a basement space. Would highly recommend this team for your basement remodel needs."

"I've worked with Dave now for several years on projects of less than $1000 and projects up to $100,000. No matter the cost, the same attention to detail is given. I find Dave to be honest, fair, trustworthy, and very hard working. Most recently, D&R Improvements repaired significant structural issues, installed new windows and Hardy siding. It was a large, daunting project, but throughout the process I had confidence in Dave and Wayne's abilities to restore the home to a condition I can be proud of. I strongly recommend them for any renovation, addition, or repair."

"Penate Tile is great, I had them refurbish a basement room and build a screen porch and both projects were excellent. On time, affordable, and great craftsmanship."

"We remodeled our downstairs basement for my parents. Mission added a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, walk in closet, and a den. They also installed hardwood flooring. Kevin was always extrememly friendly and always a pleasure to deal wit. Completing a remodel of this size, of course there were issues. However, Kevin handled them and we were able to get the job completed. My parents love the space!!!"

"Kelvin Funes, owner of KF Remodeling is a very experienced contractor in all aspects of home building and remodeling. They have done four jobs for me this year from Feb to July of 2025. Jobs included; shower/bathroom, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and painting. Some were major plumbing and installation of wired smoke detectors. Not easy but Kelvin always tells me his job is to solve problems. And he does. Twice I needed to call him back to handle small over looked items and he returned promptly to handle them. Kelvin's knowledge, experience, and advice contributed greatly to the success of my projects, I am impressed and well pleased. Thank you KF Remodeling."

"James was very responsive and we worked out a date for him to come to the house.  He showed up on time and got to work.  He decided to start with the gas water heater in the basement (and gave me a recommendation should it break down) and flushed the water out.  He then checked the water pressure to my clothes washer and the laundry sink I had installed previously. He also checked the visible pipes and water main in the basement (and gave me an estimate on replacement).  Then he checked that the toilet was working fine and no leaks were visible anywhere.  All-in-all he was very honest and professional in his assessment of my home's plumbing.  Very good info to have."

"I really can’t say enough good things about GEA. I recently moved to the area and was unsure of who to work with for a home improvement renovation. I sourced estimates from 7 different contractors - Junior was the ONLY contractor who went up to the attic during the estimate to inspect the joists and support structure. He was also the only one who wore a mask (unprompted) due to Covid. That gave me the indication early on that he would be thorough and professional. The work itself was impeccable - different crew members have their specialities (flooring, carpentry, electrical, etc.) and were assigned accordingly. They were always prompt and respectful and they cleaned up after every work day. Junior was extremely thorough and addressed every single concern I had. The price was more than fair, the work was excellent, and everything was performed to code. I am 100% satisfied and very grateful that I found GEA - I have recommended them to all of my neighbors and will be using them for all of my future home improvement projects!"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Renovation enhances functionality, increases home value, and can add new space for personal or family needs. It typically modernizes older unfinished basements for new uses.

Any bowing in a basement wall indicates a problem that needs to be addressed by a professional. If your basement wall bows more than 1 inch, it's time for an inspection. Generally, a wall can bow up to 30% of its thickness (around 2.5 inches for an 8-inch-thick wall) before it becomes an urgent situation. Bowing of 2 to 4 inches is more straightforward to fix than bowing of more than 4 inches, which will require significant repairs. If the bowing is more than 6 inches, the wall will likely need to be replaced. The sooner you address the problem, the easier and less expensive the repair will be.

Yes, adding a walkout basement will usually bump up your property value. Most homeowners prefer walk out basements because the exposed wall that’s level with the ground provides more utility via a ground-level exterior entrance, and they can fit full windows, which adds natural light and ventilation to the basement area. The only exception might be in areas prone to tornadoes, as walkout basements aren’t as safe as regular basements during a tornado, particularly if they include large windows or glass sliding doors.

Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.

In many homes, an unfinished basement is an ideal place for an in-ground pool. The concrete floors, protection against water damage, and access to the ground below your home make this a large contender. Speak with a local basement remodeling contractor to ensure your space is right for the large construction.
