When they came out, the installers told us they could not do the removal or install without removing the wall mirrors above the sinks. Then ensued several phone calls to Brett during which I pointed out that the mirrors were there before they came out to measure and if there was a problem, they should have told me ahead of time. Eventually I pointed out that I would withhold some of the payment if they did not reinstall the mirrors and after I told them I would absolved them from liability in case the mirrors or a mirror broke, they reinstalled the mirrors. The team that did the install did a very nice job. They were professional and tidy. The countertops and sinks look great. Basically I would not use this company again as I felt tthey was not customer friendly

The rest of the countertop butted up against the existing tile backsplash (as expected), the end piece did not. Why am I giving them an A when they screwed up? Because of their efforts to ensure that the job was satisfactorily resolved. Now, really, the only thing that would made it perfect was to rip the whole thing out and do it over, but that did not seem reasonable to me, and would have been a hassle that I was just not willing to deal with. The mutually agreeable solution was to install a granite backsplash along the entire countertop (a look that many people choose to begin with). But for me -- that wasn't the look I wanted. I was concerned that it wouldn't look right, the existing tiles would get messed up, and I just wouldn't like it. But, they just finished installing it - and it looks great! Well, as great as a granite backsplash can look to someone who didn't want one to begin with! It does not look like a "make good" at all. It looks like it was intentional. The tile cutouts from my existing backsplash (done to inset the granite) were precise and the grouting completely hides the seam where the granite and tile meet. The backsplash seams (as well as the countertop seams) are practically invisible. Throughout the process, both the guy who was sent out to review my complaint and the guys I talked to on the phone were professional and expressed their desire to make sure I was satisfied. So maybe others wouldn't have considered this an "A" job, but I didn't think that a "B" accurately reflected the professionalism and effort they made to ensure that end job looked great -- and, did I mention -- it looks great! Several months ago, I started out by identifying three kitchen remodeling companies (two through Angie s List and another by word-of-mouth). I interviewed each of the three companies and selected two for the design phase. I painstakingly worked closely with each designer (including visits to their showrooms and trips to my home by them) until I felt like I got the best possible product from each designer. Then, I asked for price quotes from each of the two. Courtyard Kitchens was the hands-down winner, their design was superb, thanks to Emily, a senior designer, and their pricing was more competitive. In addition, Courtyard s communication and responsiveness was top-notch. Another big plus is that Courtyard does not subcontract out their installation work, they do it all with in-house employees and the owner of the company, Brian, does much of the installation himself. Once I signed the contract with Courtyard, I purchased the appliances and hardware myself according to the design specifications. I arranged with Courtyard for them to do the work while I was away on vacation (how nice to come back home to a new kitchen!). Courtyard Kitchens proceeded to do a spectacular job. They met every deadline, stayed on schedule, kept in close contact, and their work was simply masterful. They completed all of their work in a mere three days (and that included the removal of a tricky bulkhead, which other designers weren t sure could even be done)! They also did a meticulous job cleaning up after themselves. On the third day they coordinated with the company I had selected to handle my new granite countertops (see separate review for The Countertop Stop), and the two companies worked well together. After the countertops were installed a week later, Courtyard returned for one day to finish the plumbing. Everyone was professional, courteous, trustworthy, and technically at the top of their game. I could not be more pleased. I highly recommend Courtyard Kitchens!"},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/md/hampstead/courtyard-kitchens-reviews-260864.htm"},"position":6},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Classic Granite & Marble","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MD","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"MARY M."},"reviewBody":"Overall, it went very well. Their price was thousands of dollars below estimates I received from other home improvement companies. The owner, Vural (Al) Eral is very pleasant to work with and professional. He installed the countertops despite an unexpected delay in paying him. But, Al isn't great on details. There were ramifications of my choice that I didn't realize until the work was completed. For instance, I wasn't told that my sink doesn't come with a drainer. It would have been easy to order that piece when I signed the contract. In addition, choosing granite (as opposed to laminate) countertops means that the tops will have to be cut off by Al's crew every time I need access to my washing machine and dryer. Al has assured me that his crew will come out at no charge to remove and reinstall the counter. That's a satisfactory solution. To be fair, Al said that this was the first time he'd encountered these particular design challenges."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/md/jessup/classic-granite-and-marble-reviews-159465.htm"},"position":7}]}

"From start to finish, Eugene and his crew were excellent to work with. Our free estimate was much more concise than the "ballpark estimate" thrown out by other companies. While you should always budget for surprises during construction, our estimate was itemized in detail, and showed what upgrades were available and their pricing. The total price was the best of all of our estimates. They worked efficiently, were always friendly, and cleaned up each night before they left. Eugene stopped by frequently to ensure everything was on track and accommodated my suggestions for minor tweaks throughout the process. I very much recommend them and will use them for future remodeling."

"We had our master and hall baths completely gutted and rebuilt. We bid the project out to several companies, and DMV was immediately the most helpful. Pricing was very competitive. Luis and the team completed both bathrooms in about 6 weeks - and this was a full demo. The crew was extremely kind and courteous, and worked hard to minimize the mess and impact to our home. One weekend we had a party, and they helped make our home look like there wasn’t a major project in-progress! Craftsmanship was impeccable. The tile work in particular is beautiful - details I hadn’t even thought of were done for me. Like any job, we had some changes to scope (our choice), and some minor hiccups. They were extremely helpful navigating through scope changes, and more than fair on pricing. And on the minor hiccups, they made it extra clear that the job wouldn’t be wrapped until we were satisfied - and that’s what happened. Honestly this experience was a 10 out of 10, and I hope we can have them out for another project soon. Our bathrooms went from blight to bling in 6 weeks - I look forward to getting ready now!"

"We write this review as a sigh of relief now that our renovation project with River View is finally complete. The quality of the final work is excellent, and the construction crew, architect, and county inspector were all great to work with. The original crew we worked with, led by Edwin, were so hardworking, friendly, thorough, and fast. That's what really pushed us from 2 to 3 stars. However, the process getting here was frustrating and unnecessarily chaotic. Timeline & Communication Issues: Initial promise: We were clear that the renovation had to allow us to live in our home during construction and be completed before Christmas. Early communication: Our original project manager, Cris, was personable, and early communication seemed fine, if a bit informal and sometimes inappropriately personal. Major miscommunication: Near the holidays, we discovered that the plans submitted included cutting into the roof — something we explicitly said we didn’t want. This contradicted verbal assurances and caused major last-minute changes. Project Management Failures: Poor planning and oversight: Cris and the architect’s plan didn’t align with the construction work. We had to get involved directly with the county to fix errors. Paperwork errors: Incorrect submissions to the county added delays and confusion, which we had to monitor ourselves. Last-minute scramble: We were cleaning up dust on Christmas Eve due to these planning failures. Personnel Turnover & Lack of Handoff: Cris leaves the company: No proper handover to James, the new PM, who was unfamiliar with our project. Crew replaced: The original crew, who were great, were gone; new crew had no context or direction. James leaves: Another handoff with no context — the third PM had no idea about our project or its outstanding items. Escalation mishandled: When we raised our concerns with Kyle, the CEO, the response felt dismissive, with no accountability for the previous missteps. In summary, it's a beautiful end result... but we’re glad it’s over. The process left us frustrated, confused, and frankly, exhausted."

Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
