"Kevin Williams was prompt and professional. He accommodated a last minute appointment for me when the electrician I normally use was unavailable. He called ahead to let me know when he would arrive, and even offered to arrive earlier if I wanted. He was knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. He was also very reasonably priced. I am glad I found him and plan to use his services again in the future."

Customers say: Quality work

"Long Electric was very efficient and punctual from the time we went over the project to have backup generator installed including some additional custom work. The whole team was a pleasure to work with and their professional approach to everything from prompt communication through the installation process to completing the work was phenomenal to say the least. Before the installation we were concerned about how it would look with all the exposed electrical wiring and plumbing. But they listened to our concerns and suggested ways to complete the installation to put our concerns at ease. The installation turned out great and we are so happy we went with Long Electric."

"We had five different things for Lou to fix, including a chandelier that needed to be lowered and made level. Lou rounded the oval links in the chain that held the chandelier and that made it level for the first time! He figured out why a ceiling fan was making noise and why another one wasn’t working at all. He also replaced part of our electric panel which had somehow gotten water inside and was corroded. We didn’t have the right part to change lights in our Faber stove hood, but Lou did, and quickly replaced them for us. We were really pleased with how knowledgeable and competent our electrician was and plan to call him again if we have any more electrical problems."

"I called Adrian and requested his service to fix a few minor electrical issues at my house. He arrived promptly on time and quickly took care of all the issues. While he was here, he noted a couple of other minor problems and fixed those as well. His rates were very reasonable as well. Would highly recommend his services to anyone."

"I recently needed some electrical work done on my home - several of the receptacles had stopped working. I wanted a licensed, insured company, so I contacted several of the electric contractors who were listed on NextDoor, I chose BBA Electric to do the work. Licensed, insured, pleasant to work with, finished on time, and much cheaper than the other estimates. Give them a call at 240.855.7690!"

Customers say: True professional

"I needed a dedicated 20amp circuit and outside outlet installed to my patio. Maitiai arrived on time, was friendly/professional, and completed the agreed upon work. He filed for the appropriate permit with the City of Frederick, and helped schedule the inspection which passed without issue. I would have no hesitation contracting with him again in the future."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

If a 3-way switch is wired incorrectly, this can cause several issues. The most common problem is that the switches will not function properly: Either both switches won’t work, or only one will. Another issue is that one switch will trigger a short circuit, tripping the circuit breaker.

A two-way switch is also called a single-pole or single-throw switch. These switches only have an on-and-off function and only control a single light or series of lights wired together. A three-way switch has no “on” or "off” position and works with a second switch in the circuit to control a single light or light series from two locations.

When installing an outdoor outlet, it's important to proceed with caution. Unless you have the necessary training and licensure, it's not recommended to attempt this DIY. First, choose a suitable location. Make sure that the area can accommodate the outlet without overloading the circuit. You'll also need to ensure that your project complies with building codes. Next, turn off the power to the circuit, then install and wire the outlet according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once the outlet is in place, test it. Lastly, be sure to use a cover that will protect it from moisture and other weather-related damage.

No, not all thermostats require a C-wire. Older manual and programmable thermostats typically do not need one. While many smart thermostats do require a C-wire to function correctly, some models can operate without one, often at the expense of certain features. A C-wire provides a constant source of power, which enables the thermostat to stay connected to Wi-Fi and keep its display screen lit on-demand. If you are upgrading from an older thermostat to a smart model that requires a C-wire, you may need to install one first for it to work as intended.

If you’re interested in exploring other avenues to completely upgrade your electrical panel, it’s also possible to add a sub-panel, which is a smaller panel that connects to what you currently have in place. This way, you can add additional circuits without having to swap out your main panel.
