Customers say: True professional

"Matthew came within hours of my request. I was si ky impressed. He also took a table that I forgot to ask him initially and he took it for the same price. The fee was extremely reasonable. Matthew's a delight to work with. He did the hauling immediately after he arrived. We had a real heart to heart talk about life after he was done. He was very kind and inspirational . Because of him, I give this company a Fifteen Star rating. I would highly recommend NYs Services."

Warranties offered

"After months of hemming and hawing and getting quotes, I finally went with Hollywood Junk to haul away my old washer and dryer. I m so glad I did! They gave me the best price and could do it the next day. Then when the weather started looking bad, they contacted me and came to get them early - the same day I called. I was able to get my car in the garage before the snow came. Steve was super nice and professional. I would use this company again in a heartbeat."

Emergency services offered

"Other than arriving an hour later than scheduled (called to say they were stuck in traffic) Mass Junk did a decent job. They deconstructed an old wood shed and hauled off a ton of cardboard and floor boards. My stuff took up an entire truck full. Their pricing varies. Was hoping for a better deal than what I was offered. There are still some items they weren't able to fit in the truck and I was told they would come back and pick it up another time, FOC. Fast and friendly crew."

Small jobs welcome

"This company was great. They called right away. I explained my job. I sent pictures. I had a quote within an hour. I had a very old huge TV on the second floor and a big couch with 2 recliners on the first floor. Their prices were very reasonable. They gave me choice of pick up dates. I chose the second day after my call. They checked in that morning to confirm. They called when they were on their way. They were on time, very professional, pleasant very careful of my property. The TV had to be 300lbs but they got it down my small high staircase within damage to walls or steps. They cut the couch into pieces to easily remove. Cleaned up & were gone in less than an hour. I was very happy. I highly recommend this company â â â â â"

Hauling questions, answered by experts

The average cost of appliance removal is around $75 per appliance, but you could pay anywhere from $25 to $150, depending on a few factors. Some things that have an impact on the cost of appliance removal include the following:

  • Size of your appliance, with larger items costing more to haul away

  • Number of doorways or stairways the removal specialists need to navigate around

  • Distance from a proper dumping site

  • Presence of water lines or gas lines that need to be disconnected during removal

Policies vary on what you can throw in a dumpster rental. Some companies will accept large appliances, although you may need to take steps to prepare the washer and dryer for disposal. Some companies don’t allow large appliances in their dumpsters at all, so it’s best to ask the rental company beforehand to find out what its policy is.

Most junk removal services don’t take hazardous materials, including paint, gasoline, bleach, and other chemicals. When gathering quotes, ask the company about its specific restrictions.

Focus on decluttering when downsizing to move cross-country. Selling, donating, or recycling unwanted items early in your moving process is key to your success. If you are on the fence about some items, consider storage options, or you can ship these items separately to lessen your load.

There are several ways to dispose of excess sod, including building a compost pile, taking it to a green waste disposal facility, donating the sod, or reusing it in another part of your yard. It’s a good idea to check with your local municipality to see how to get rid of yard waste, as some areas have local regulations on what can go in the green waste bin. For example, your recycling services may reject too much soil added to green waste.
