"I had originally wanted to expose and restore the oak floor in the kitchen. When Max arrived he immediately saw that I had a problem. He explained that the tiles and adhesives covering the hidden oak underneath contained asbestos and walked me through the alternative and all the benefits of a floating vinyl plank floor. He is a rare breed - the ultimate gentleman, kind, patient, and so knowledgeable. He is an excellent communicator and very eager to provide you with the best possible experience. He and Rick, a member of the Luxe team, have created a beautiful thing. Rick's attention to the finishing details is outstanding. Did I mention neat and clean? All the leftover stock, packaging, and debris was taken away. The only thing left behind was a lovely new floor. They are flooring "SuperStars" - definitely deserving a 10 star rating if it were possible. I will definitely call Max for any future floor refinishing projects."

Customers say: Quick response

"Mike and his crew were a pleasure to work with. They came on time and fixed my rippled carpeting on 3 floors, itâ s now beautiful. They did it right and for a very reasonable cost. The guys moved furniture and put it all back when done. They also vacuumed and left no mess. I am very happy with how it came out."

"I reached out to the Flooring Sanders Co and spoke with Varouj. He was very professional and worked with me to fully understand the process since I was completely unfamiliar. There was a small miscommunication about what finish to use on the flooring, but this was remediated by Varouj very quickly. I would highly recommend Varouj and his team. They did a great job and I love the new refinished floors. Couldn't be happier."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

A subfloor's lifespan can range from 30 years to the entire life of the house, which is often between 50 and 100 years. The actual longevity depends on the material and its protection from damage. For example, while OSB may last longer than plywood, it is not the best choice for heavy flooring like ceramic tile. The most critical factor is moisture; a subfloor that avoids water damage, mold, and termites can last for decades. However, prolonged exposure to moisture will cause it to warp, rot, or grow mold, significantly shortening its life.

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction and friction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls. Additionally, if a fall does occur, carpet offers more cushioning, which can lessen the severity of an injury. While hard surfaces can look great, they are often more slippery. However, it's worth noting that some carpets, especially if they are new, dirty, or have a slick texture, can also pose a slipping hazard. To improve safety on any type of stair surface, you can add traction treads to increase grip.

The best flooring for radiant heat systems is tile, including porcelain, ceramic, and natural stone. These materials are excellent heat conductors, retain warmth well, and are waterproof, which prevents mold or rot in case of leaks from a hydronic system. Unlike wood, they do not pose a fire safety risk if the heating system overheats. Ceramic tile is a particularly popular choice as it is inexpensive, easy to install, and available in many styles, making it ideal for spaces like bathrooms. Other flooring types that work well with radiant heat include laminate, engineered wood, and vinyl. If you are installing radiant heating over a concrete slab, especially in a basement, it is advisable to install a vapor barrier first to prevent issues with moisture and condensation.

Moso bamboo, Phyllostachys edulis, is the most commonly used species for bamboo flooring. Moso bamboo is native to China and Taiwan, and it was later introduced to Japan and then the United States. In addition to flooring, Moso bamboo is used in textile production, and the shoots are edible. Moso is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, which is why it’s an affordable and sustainable option compared to traditional hardwood.

To prep a floor for painting, start by sweeping and cleaning any loose debris that could puncture the protective material. Take out as much furniture as possible. Then lay plastic, canvas, rosin paper, or masonite sheets across the room, securing them at the edges with masking tape. Plan your painting so that you minimize the chances you’ll step in and track any splatters.
