"My crew from NSP was amazing. Professional, courteous, kind and on point to get the task done. Large 2 story colonial with addition and ovs garage. I believe it took total of 5 days because of early weather in October 22. No paint chips on ground, very conscious of my shrubs and gardens, you would not even know they were painting. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this outstanding company and would not hesitate to have them paint my home again. The price was very fair, the warranty good but most of all they always stayed in touch to let me know what was going to happen etc. My team, Frank, Benjamin and Valerio were amazing. Peter the owner and coordinator did a great job. Thank you again. My neighbors stopped to tell me how great my home looks and asked for the name of the painters for them in springtime. Thats says much about Northshore Painting. Great job, great professionalism, great job. VCM Billerica Ma"

"Rafael and his team at Pontes Painting do FANTASTIC work. I have used them for two home projects now: the first time for interior painting during a basement renovation, and the second time for the exterior painting of my entire home. The communication, pricing, planning, effort, and actual work are all reasonable and top notch. Very easy and friendly to work with, and I highly recommend them!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"We couldn’t be happier with the interior painting that Steve and his crew did in our home—it’s truly outstanding. The job was completed quickly, efficiently, and with exceptional attention to detail. Steve’s communication throughout the project went above and beyond. He kept us updated every step of the way, shared progress photos, and made sure he fully understood our vision for each room. Our house is older and full of charm, which also means it comes with unique challenges—like intricate trim and fine details. The crew handled it all with absolute precision. Their craftsmanship really brought out the character of our home. If we ever need more painting done, there’s no question—we’ll be calling Bay State Painting and Power Washing again. Highly recommended!"

"Mateo is an extremely reputable person and businessman. The quality of his work was superb. His work ethic was the best I have seen. We wish that there was more work we could have him do. I would and have recommend them for all interior painting. His attention to detail and paint prep was great. Please give this company a try, you wonâ t regret it. Jonathan Jodoin"

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

Lead removal is crucial in older homes to eliminate risks of lead poisoning, which can severely affect health, particularly in children, by impacting development and cognitive functions.

You can apply waterproofing over paint, but you won't get as much protection as you would if you painted the surface with a waterproof paint from the get-go. Not all waterproofing methods are compatible with painted surfaces, and they may not adhere well. This is especially true if the paint is glossy, old, or flaking. Waterproofing sealers are primarily meant to be applied to porous surfaces, like concrete, wood, or brick.

A natural paint remover for metal is a solution of 16 parts water and one part baking soda or vinegar. When heated on your stovetop, these non-toxic household items combine into a highly effective solution that can be used to remove paint from small metal objects with tricky nooks and crannies.

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

Yes, you can paint over old exterior paint, but success depends on the condition of the existing paint and proper surface preparation. If the previous coating is in good shape (not cracked, peeling, or flaky), you can paint over it with less prep work. However, for the most durable and professional-looking results, follow these key preparation steps:

  • Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the exterior to remove all dirt, grime, and mildew. A pressure washer can be very effective for this.

  • Scrape and Sand: If the old paint is peeling, cracked, or flaky, you must scrape off all loose paint. After scraping, sand the surface to create a smooth, even base for the new paint. Sanding is especially important for wood siding.

  • Apply Primer: Using a quality exterior primer is highly recommended. It ensures the new paint adheres properly, improves durability, and provides a uniform finish. If you are painting a lighter color over a dark one, a tinted primer will help cover the old color more effectively.

Some brands offer paint-and-primer-in-one products for convenience. Taking the time to prepare the surface properly will not only increase your home's curb appeal but also help protect your siding and extend its life.
