"Matt got the job done in a timely manner, efficiently. He didn't charge anymore than he had asked. Did not push himself on us to do more in the room, which was great. He is very courteous. He is jolly friendly and gets the job done. He also cleans up after he is done. I would highly recommend Meade Handyman service."

"Awesome Service! I hired recently to install two garage door openers. I am pleased with his service. I described him as a professional, punctual and knowledgeable. He knows what he is doing. He visited prior to start the project and described what will be needed to complete the project and show up exactly on time (sharp) and completed the job very neatly and professionally. The best part and extra mile he gave in the whole project was follow up after the job is complete which mostly no one does after receiving the payment. Thank you so much for the job."

"The job went well, very brief and surprisingly inexpensive. (I understand everyone has to live, so I expected to pay for a livelihood, but I was delighted to have my wallet only lightly crimped.) Bertie Walsh arrived around the agreed time.  I gave him the two grab bars the VA decided I needed in my bathing area, an old retired vet in a wheelchair, like me. I live alone, in a condo, so I needed a handyman to install them.
I'm glad I had a professional person install them because, even if I were fit, I surely would have botched the job. This place was cut up into condos in 1987. It used to be just a red brick factory-- originally constructed around the turn of the 20th century to work with Brockton by making those metal lacing eyelets for boots. They used metal--not plywood--when they cut the factory into apartments like mine (Bertie Walsh later explained to me). If I were doing the job myself I would have been expecting wooden studs behind the tile--which would have been full of exploratory holes when I got done.
So, I pointed to the bathroom, assured myself that Bertie Walsh had all he needed, and went to finish watching the program I had on, wondering what I had to offer Mr. Walsh when he broke for lunch soon. How pleased I was when that time arrived and he said the job was done and that I only owed him $50!
Bertie Walsh explained to me that the grab bars were firm, but that he had to install them in the metal. Should they loosen, over time, do not risk injury, by all means call him.

Handyman Services questions, answered by experts

Homeowners in Reading often overlook the impact of freeze-thaw cycles, use materials not rated for New England’s climate, or underestimate the importance of attic ventilation. Attempting electrical or plumbing work without proper expertise, skipping ice dam prevention, and neglecting to check for hidden moisture in basements are frequent mistakes that can lead to bigger problems in Reading’s older homes.

Helpful?

Watch for water stains on basement walls after rain, drafts near original wood windows, or uneven heating in upstairs rooms—these often signal that insulation or sealing projects in Reading homes need attention. If gutters overflow despite recent cleaning, or you spot peeling paint on exterior trim, it’s likely previous repairs weren’t sufficient for Reading’s weather and should be revisited.

Helpful?

In Reading, prioritize handyman projects that address older Colonial and Cape-style homes and local weather extremes. Start with a thorough inspection of attic insulation, check for ice dam risks on low-pitched roofs, and test sump pumps for basement moisture. Upgrade weather stripping on original windows, inspect exterior trim for rot, and ensure outdoor faucets are winterized to handle Reading’s frequent freeze-thaw cycles.

Helpful?

After completing handyman service projects in Reading, set reminders to inspect attic insulation and weatherproofing each fall. Schedule seasonal gutter cleaning after heavy leaf drop, and monitor basement humidity during spring thaw. Keep a maintenance log for all repairs, and plan annual checks on plumbing and electrical updates, especially in homes built before 1970, to maintain long-term home safety and energy efficiency.

Helpful?

For Reading homes, keep a snow rake for roof maintenance, pipe insulation and heat tape for winter, and a moisture meter for monitoring basement dampness. Stock a heavy-duty caulk gun, weatherproof caulk, and weather stripping for draft control. Have a wet/dry vacuum, gutter scoop, furnace filters, and outdoor faucet covers ready to address seasonal home maintenance and prevent common local issues.
