"Joyce Cooling and Heating installed a new high-efficiency Lennox furnace and air conditioner. The installation looks great and was professionally completed. The furnace is working fantastic and is so quiet we can't even hear it running. We are warm and comfortable all the time and the new high-efficiency design should save us money for many years to come. The technicians answered all of my numerous questions."

"Joe, the AirCo sales representative, was very professional. He actually asked for my feedback on priorities for a new boiler. This was important to me because the boiler sits below our family room, and the noise level of the boiler was as issue. His proposals listed several boiler options, based on heating efficiency, which were competitively priced. The installation was run by Steve, who was able to fit in the installation the next week. Steve, and his crews, were punctual and courteous, and the installation went smoothly. It's only been a week, but I am very pleased with my Bosch boiler, the quality of the work, the price paid, and the timeliness of the installation."

"Kilpatrick HVAC is my go to company for all things HVAC. They have replaced a few furnaces and air conditioners for me over the years. Mike and John are very good at what they do. They are a lean team which makes them very competitive compared to big HVAC companies without sacrificing on quality. I highly recommend Kilpatrick HVAC for your HVAC needs."

"I bought an Angie's list offer for Air Duct cleaning from Duct King. They called me to schedule in a timely matter. Showed up on time. Did a good and a thorough job. The technician was professional and worked hard. Better than other Air Duct cleaning companies I used before. I highly recommend them."

"i called to have my HVAC duct work cleaned. They asked a few questions, gave me a very reasonable quote, and sent Verne out next day. I got tired just watching him do a thorough job for 3+ hours. I couldn't be happier. If you are debating who to hire just stop and call them."

Small jobs welcome

"Good work and very nice technician but extremely overpriced. $841 for replacing two taco zone valve heads (about $100/ea) in under 2 hours works out to around $320/hour. I had a quote for another HVAC pro for $150/hour (which I thought was somewhat high for just one guy - boy was I wrong)."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

Unfortunately, a freon leak will persist even when your AC unit is off. The freon in the AC unit is under pressure no matter the status of the system, so it will continue to drip through the leak even when you shut off the entire unit. It will continue to leak freon until it’s completely empty.

The standard HVAC warranty is around five years. Still, many brands offer an extension to 10 years if you register the product within a specific timeframe, typically 60 to 90 days post-purchase or HVAC installation. Over the past decade, warranty periods have substantially increased, shifting from 3-5 years in the 90s to the now-prevalent 10+ year warranties. Both warranty types cover parts failing due to manufacturer defects, incurring no additional costs. Some manufacturers provide extended warranties surpassing the usual 15- to 20-year window, though these often involve extra fees.

Yes, it’s best to turn off an AC unit that’s blowing hot air to prevent system damage and avoid expensive energy bills. If you let the AC continue running, it will put more strain on the condenser coil and compressor. Plus, if the AC is blowing hot air because of a refrigerant leak, it can also lead to a frozen evaporator coil.

An air conditioner’s watt usage depends on multiple factors, including the type of AC unit, its size, and how often you use it. With that said, most central air conditioners consume between 3,000 and 3,500 watts. Meanwhile, window AC units use 900 to 1,400 watts, and portable air conditioners consume 2,900 to 4,100 watts.
