"The service lasted over the course of several months due to the seasons and my building schedule. After meeting with several companies and feeling very uncomfortable getting random numbers with little or no supporting information I was referred to these folks. From the first call all were great. Met with the owner who came out, he explained the process, listened to my needs (RValue, stretch code, continuous coverage throughout) and my plans and schedule for building. They were very responsive and did the roof in the fall and the walls last week. They adjusted their schedule several times to fit mine, completed the project and cleaned up very well. The inspectors are impressed and I'm very happy with everything. I will use again and highly recommend for anyone who needs insulation to give them a call."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The type of insulation you need in your home depends on your location, the installation site, and your region’s climate. According to Energy Star, insulation in homes in the Southern United States should have an R-value of between R30 and R60 in attics and R13 to R25 in the floors and walls; homes in moderate climates require R values of R38 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls; and homes in northern states require an R value of R49 to R60 in attics and R25 to R30 in floors and walls.

Yes. Proper, complete insulation will ensure that you trap the most cool or warm air inside your home, preventing high energy bills. In addition, insulation tends to settle and compress, leaving gaps over time; the more you insulate completely during the initial installation, the less you’ll need to do down the line.

While there are many different kinds of insulation, spray foam, blown-in, foam board, and batt and roll are the four types you’re most likely to see. That doesn’t mean they’re alike, though. Each one varies drastically in terms of cost, materials used, and how they’re installed—not to mention, how well they limit heat transfer.

Garage doors that are not insulated can be a major source of heat loss. That’s why it’s essential to winterize your garage door with insulation and weather stripping to prevent heat loss and keep it warm more easily. Consult a local garage door installer if you need help determining the cause of your garage losing heat.

Insulating windows with plastic works, but it can be time-consuming, and the end results can—and often do—end up lacking in aesthetics. Window film and caulking your windows to make sure there are no drafts are two options that increase the energy efficiency of your home in a low-cost way. Plastic can be a good strategy while you consider alternatives.
