"By Andrew v. Engineer Dave Schofield of Capstone displayed professionalism by turning a flawed design for our Sudbury septic system into one highly adaptive and functional. He was purposeful about doing the right thing even when not winning installation contract, execution of which he in in fact supervised. In a business which includes its share of uneven performers, Schofield’s competence is a stand-out."

"Barrows responded to leaking septic tank immediately. Within 12 days, all the permits were issued, inspection complete, old tank removed and new tank installed. Whole operation took less than two construction days. Would have been even quicker but for the Labor Day weekend."

"My existing toilet was a pressure assist type and needs a high level of water pressure to work properly.  I had a water pressure tank installed 20 years ago to help overall and for this toilet.  The tank  that I have had stopped working.  Peter came over and tried to fix that tank but determined that it was not repairable.  The water pressure has improved in Bellingham since I installed this tank and it is no longer needed.  We then decided that the easiest and cheapest way to solve my problem is to simply install a new toilet.  Peter gave me some advice on what toilets to look for and we scheduled a time for him to come back out and install the new toilet.
He arrived a little early for the installation and it took him and his assistant about 45 minutes to remove tho old toilet and install the new one.  They were very professional and worked quickly.  When they were finished they left the place very clean; you wouldn't know they had been there.
I would recommend them and I would use them again.

"I asked for proof of license. It was the first thing presented to me. I was told exactly what they were going to do and they did it. Total job about 2 hours including observing the original tank, driving to purchase replacement tank and return with additional worker and finish install and remover old tank. I might of found a lower price to save maybe a few hundred but sometimes you get what you pay for."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

The pressure in a well pressure tank should be set 2 to 3 PSI below the pump's cut-on pressure. The cut-on pressure is the lower number in the pressure setting (e.g., the '30' in 30/50 PSI) and is the point at which the pump starts. The cut-out pressure is the higher number, where the pump stops.

For example:

  • If your pressure switch is set to 30/50 PSI, the tank pressure should be 27-28 PSI.

  • If your pressure switch is set to 40/60 PSI, the tank pressure should be 38 PSI.

Common pressure settings for household applications include 20/40, 30/50, and 40/60 PSI. The difference between the cut-on and cut-out pressure is typically 20 PSI.

Yes, septic tank companies must be licensed in most states and municipalities to perform services like installation, alteration, repair, and pumping. Since laws vary by location, it's crucial to check local requirements.

Hiring an unlicensed professional can lead to poor work, code violations, and significant fines. Always verify that your chosen company is properly licensed and fully insured to avoid liability. You can use tools like Angi’s contractor licensing search to check a pro's credentials.

It's also helpful to understand the difference between licensing and certification. A license is a legal requirement to operate, while certifications are voluntary. Credentials like the “Angi Approved” badge indicate that a business meets extra standards, such as passing a background check and maintaining a high rating.

Yes, it is generally okay to oversize a well pressure tank, and it will not harm your well system. The primary advantage is that a larger tank reduces frequent pump cycling, leading to longer, slower cycles with fewer startups. This can result in less wear and tear, potentially increasing the lifespan of the pump and conserving energy. However, there are drawbacks to consider. Oversized tanks have a higher upfront cost and require more physical space. While not necessarily a bad thing, opting for a tank that is appropriately sized for your well is often the most efficient choice in terms of cost and space.

Conventional anaerobic septic systems are the most cost-effective and least expensive type, with installation costs typically ranging from $3,000 to $8,000. For comparison, sand filter systems cost between $7,000 and $18,000, while mound systems are the most expensive at $10,000 to $20,000. Several factors influence the final price. The tank material is a key consideration; plastic tanks are the most budget-friendly option, starting around $2,900, but concrete and fiberglass tanks offer greater durability and longer life spans at a higher cost. The size of the tank also affects the price. For example, a 1,000-gallon tank costs between $900 and $1,500, whereas a larger 1,500-gallon tank costs $1,500 to $2,500.

You can add three rotten tomatoes or 1/4 ounce of yeast to your septic tank to speed up the decomposition of sludge. You can add the tomatoes by way of your garbage disposal and the yeast by way of your toilet. You can do either of these additives once every three months as needed.
