"Just before the pandemic enveloped us all, I had a structural engineer in place for my cottage rebuild project. Because of his older age and such an uncertain time, he decided to retire. I was on the hunt for another structural engineer. Enter Aboud of AJA Engineering. Professional, knowledgeable, responsive, personable. He helped me to design the home of my dreams. He then went above and beyond by sharing me with names of contractors that he routinely works with. I was fortunate to select one of them who did amazing job on the rebuild. Along the way with varying circumstances encountered, Aboud was there onsite to suggest, advise, guide, and lend support. He is an individual that you want on your project and I give my highest recommendation!!"

"Was having a potential home inspected for structural integrity. Spoke to Bob on the phone a few times. Since the home’s basement primarily consisted of a giant crawl space, I was told Don would do the job. Ultimately, the day before the scheduled inspection, I couldn’t get ahold of Don. Bob said Don was “feeling sick,” so the job was off. Frustrating, but a blessing in disguise because we ended up going with Colonial Restorations (the home was built in the 1800s). Colonial Restorations, LLC is the “go-to” for older home inspections and repairs. Tom was amazing (his son Brad is soon to take over the business)! They were both prompt, professional, and thorough. Very pleased with their work and thorough report/estimate. Colonial Restorations, LLC PO Box 868 Fiskdale, MA 01518 508-735-9900"

"Pavel is an excellent structural engineer/designer who helped design a better solution to a build for a six unit back stairs/deck. His design gave each tenant a more private area to sit on the back deck. He designed the stairs to go up the middle, and not interfere with the private area that each tenant will have. He is easy to work with and he is timely in his response to any questions I had. I highly recommend Pavel."

"After an unusual situation arose at my home, I was concerned about the possibility of structural damage caused by drilling and new construction at an adjacent lot. After receiving a recommendation for Veitas Engineers from a trusted source, I called and scheduled an appointment. I am so thankful that I did. I continue to be impressed with the amount of time that the two engineers spent at my house, closely inspecting the exterior and interior. Within days, I received a 16-page detailed report which included drawings, photographs, recommendations, and action items. I was so pleased when I saw that the action items were categorized as structural and non-structural, that is, that the engineers included items beyond my actual structural concerns. I used the report when working with a contractor to follow up on the recommendations and action items. The contractor was impressed with the quality, clarity, and scope of the report. I am so happy that I chose Veitas Engineers!"

"Contacted them in march, they were quick to get back to me to see the job and make a proposal. I wanted steel rather than the more common laminated wood beam, they were happy to accomodate this. I had to clear all my stuff out of the basement so that they could work, this delayed my acceptance of the contract until I finished . When they began it took about a 2 weeks to complete. They first put up 2 tempoary support walls, removed the basement staircase and put it off to one side, then poured the footings for the post. When the concrete was ready it took 1 day to lift in the beam and put the post under it. A great improvement over what was there when i bought the house.

October 2015, I am still pleased with the steel beam."

"We had an exceptional experience working with Michal on our house extension project. From the very beginning, he demonstrated an outstanding ability to translate our vision into a functional, beautiful design that seamlessly blends with the existing structure. His attention to detail, creativity, and deep understanding of both aesthetics and practicality made the entire process smooth and enjoyable. What truly stood out was his communication and responsiveness—he was always available to answer questions, provide updates, and offer thoughtful suggestions that improved the overall outcome. He collaborated effectively with our sub-contractors, engineer and interior designer and ensured that every stage of the project stayed on track, on budget, and in line with local regulations. The final result has exceeded our expectations. The new space feels light-filled, spacious, and perfectly suited to our family's needs. We receive compliments on it from many people! Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Building codes for spiral staircases will vary by your location. Most local codes will specify minimum tread width, riser height, handrail requirements, and headroom. These standards help ensure safety and accessibility for all users. Always check local codes before you begin the installation to ensure compliance and avoid costly modifications or fines.

Most lenders and homeowner’s insurance companies don’t mandate a structural engineer’s inspection, so in most cases, it’s not required. However, it’s a good idea to have one done anyway to ensure you know what you’re buying. You can use the report to carry out repairs after closing or even to negotiate the sale price before closing.

Many horizontal cracks in home foundations result from water and soil pressure from outside of the building or from a footing that is shifting. Under those circumstances, horizontal cracks are a structural problem that requires repair before they become worse and more difficult to fix. However, in very specific cases, thin horizontal cracks may simply be a cosmetic blemish due to concrete shrinkage.

Structural engineers are necessary for projects involving alterations to load-bearing structures, foundation work, and compliance with safety standards. This includes home expansions, retaining walls, and significant repairs that impact a property's integrity.

Yes, water damage can affect your walls' structural integrity. If the water or moisture sits on the walls for an extended period, it can weaken the drywall, plaster, wood framing, and other materials supporting the wall. That's why it's critical to dry out the area as soon as you notice it.
