"Excellent! David and his Team were Great! They replaced a rotting board below a patio sliding glass door. They showed up on time, completed the project the same day, were able to move a 700 pound granite step, and did this all in heavy rain. I would highly recommend David and his Team. "I just got my sliding doors fixed yesterday and boy they did a good job. I had a cancelled appointment first time around but these things happen. The guys came in for estimate but started working on the spot right away which was welcome because I didn't want to take a day off for another work. They were very nice and respectful and honest. Their pricing is good as well. Thank you Good Window Works! I highly recommend."

"Our experience in selecting Pontes Painting is as follows: four paint contractors visited and surveyed the two story- shingled, sixteen window house to survey the project . I had prepared questions and took notes on each survey, sent an email to each contractor to confirm my notes of their survey, and requested a return confirmation and detailed quotation from each, via email. . Only Pontes Painting replied with an email detailed quotation, with each line item clearly explained. including paint type, manufacturer, color and number of paint coats, surface preparation, number of painters in the crew, schedule and detailed pricing breakdowns, , time to complete the project, warranty and payment terms, along with copies of the 13 house photos taken during R Pontess survey. One of the other contractors visited again in person to review his prepared hand written proposal. *** Pontes Painting was selected., pricing was competitive *** Sept 19, 2023, two, Pontes Painting and vans arrived promptly at 8:00 AM, with a total crew of four including a supervisor who remained on site ( and also painted) the entire day. The crew also included a skilled carpenter/painter. The carpenter completely rebuilt the basement door door frame. The crew was respectful, polite, clean cut, cooperative in every way, complied with several special requests. Safety first for the customer and crew, meaning that the crew took the time at the end of the day to take down the ladders, stack them and place off to the side of the yard walking area at the end of each day Also, they picked up trash & cleaned up each day, never asked for anything or to use our facilities, Email and phone communications with R Pontes was continuously expedient, he gave very good advice to us on what to do and what not to do on color combinations. We are very glad that we took his advice. They re-installed all of our shutters on sixteen windows. The project was completed in two days. We surveyed the project on ( sunny) Thursday(( 9/21) AM, found several spots that needed touch- up. The supervisor returned on that same Thursday afternoon, completed each touch- up to our satisfaction. I had to TIP them. I highly recommend Pontes Painting."

"The crew did a great job, prompt (if not early), hard working, and cleaned up nicely every day. Although communication was a bit difficult, we persevered with an interpreter program on our phones. The windows are beautiful, and the new front door is awesome. Everything is installed properly and works great!"

Doors questions, answered by experts

A door frame is not the same as a door casing. A door frame is the framework surrounding the entire door that supports the area from which the door hangs. The frame is made up of multiple parts, including the door jamb, head, and sill.

Casing refers to the trim work located around the door frame. It connects the door frame to the wall with decorative trim.

The most common rough opening for a sliding glass door is 60 inches to 72 inches by 80 inches. A rough opening is the unframed space where your door will go.

Sometimes, these two terms are used interchangeably, but they are separate parts of a door, and each serves a different function. The sill helps ensure the doorframe is secure, and the threshold helps protect the sill and direct water away from the door to prevent leaks.

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

To build a standard size, six-panel door yourself, you’ll need four 2-foot by 6-foot boards, one 2-foot by 8-foot or 2-foot by 10-foot board, and a sheet of 3/4-inch, paint-grade plywood. The 2-foot by 6-foot boards will serve as your stiles, top rail, and horizontal and vertical mullions, and the wider board will serve as the bottom rail, which is usually wider than the other horizontal pieces. The plywood will serve as the panels, but you’ll need around five 1-foot by 6-foot boards to make your own panels if you want to stain the door rather than paint it.
