"I am very happy with the work the Marquis team did for me. Three people; one is a woman. I applaud hiring women for this type of work; thank you, Marquis. They did exactly what I wanted done; the correct amount of trimming of big branches to open up more light on my deck and stop leaves and birds from making a mess throughout the year. I did not have to tell the crew what to do; they are the professionals and did a great job. I will be recommending Marquis to others; their quote came in much lower than other arborists; and I was very pleased with the result. GOOD value. Good cleanup."

"I would highly recommend services by this company. Mario and his team are highly efficient- getting started early and on time and they work hard! Watching them do their thing is like watching a well oiled machine. They cut down all the trees I wanted and executed it in a safe and controlled manner. They also inspected some other trees and advised whether to keep or not. The area was cleaned up after the job and I would definitely hire them again. Great pricing too! I had about 14 trees removed."

"Tree Works - Lopez was excellent. I requested a quote and Miquel was out first thing next morning. He viewed the work to be done, quoted on the spot and came with his team in the afternoon. The bucket truck negotiated my narrow driveway extremely well, the plastic planks protected my lawn. The tree trimming went flawlessly, with the chipper keeping up. The team worked well together, efficiently and in unison. Reasonable fee for the work involved. Would definitely recommend them."

Customers say: True professional

"I met with Rudy of RGS Tree Service and received an estimate to remove a small Maple tree (25-30 ft.) that had rotted and was a fall hazard, and to trim back a couple of other trees in my yard. Once we agreed on a price ($800) that I was comfortable paying, I received a written agreement from Rudy that described the work to be performed. The next morning, a fleet of RGS vehicles showed up, including a bucket truck, along with a dozen workers. My job was small, so after assessing the work to be done, they left behind the men, vehicles and equipment needed for my job, while the others went onto their next job. The tree work was done quickly and competently. The cut tree was guided by rope and allowed to fall safely into the driveway. These guys were surgeons with their pole and chain saws, cutting with precision. The downed tree and cut limbs were fed into a chipper and disposed of. My property was then swept and blown clean. The crew was friendly and courteous, and understood the work that I wanted performed. I am extremely satisfied with the work performed by RGS and will definitely hire them again, when the need arises. 5 STARS!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Trees that flower in the spring—like dogwood, cherry, magnolia, and pear—should not be pruned during the winter. These spring-flowering plants grow buds on old growth, so you’ll actually remove what would’ve been gorgeous flowering foliage. Instead, wait to prune until right after they bloom, when the flowers fade.

If executed correctly your tree should survive after being transplanted to a new spot. However, effective transplanting requires six months, careful root pruning, safe transport to the new location, and replanting in prime soil conditions. You’ll also need an appropriately sized root ball for a complete tree transplant. A good rule of thumb is that, for every inch in diameter, your tree’s root ball needs to be around 11 inches. So a tree with a diameter of six inches needs a root ball of approximately 66 inches.

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.

For trimming trees, your best tool is a pair of pruning shears or loppers. Both options work best for branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Trimming trees with a larger diameter may require a robust tool like a small chainsaw or a handsaw, so take into account your tree’s diameter when deciding between tools.

It can be bad to leave a dead stump in the ground. A stump becomes a hefty piece of dead wood in time and eventually (especially with the help of rain) starts to rot. That makes it a locus point for diseases and pesky insects, as well as a bit of an eyesore. It’s best to remove a tree stump completely before it starts to decay, especially before it starts to fall apart. If the tree was removed because of disease, it’s even more important to fully remove the stump if possible.
