Small jobs welcome

"Affordably priced, very timely, and very thorough. I had a cluster (9 or 10) of Maple stumps located on a mound covered with rocks and roots, which I believed to be a very challenging job. I was glad I sought out Home Advisor and selected Stump n' Grind from the recommended list they provided. This is about the third or fourth third time I sought Home Advisor for their recommendations. I am highly satisfied with the people and businesses they recommended. I have told others that Home Advisor is a trusted source for seeking professionals for jobs around their house."

"Greenleaf was exceptionally professional, on time and on budget. We had a massive maple tree in the backyard that had seen some extensive damage over the last few winters. Access to the yard is difficult, so the team had to bring in a crane. It took approximately 4 hours from start to finish. Great service, great company."

"This huge pine tree was in relatively poor shape and needed to be removed, it was a hazard to the houses in the vicinity. After another company had said they would do it, but backed out at the last minute (said their crane was not large enough), I called Marquis. These guys seem like real professionals. I couldn't believe how quickly they set everything up, and then took down the tree, piece by piece. They have all the right equipment, and tons of experience with trees like ours, it was clear. Communications via email and phone were always quick, with quotes, invoices and payments handled conveniently online. Would definitely contact them again if we have any tree service requirements."

Customers say: True professional

"When Brian arrived with his crew and heavy duty equipment I was very impressed. I was concerned about the utility lines going through this large tree they were going to remove, Brian assured me he would be able to work around them. They left my property the same way it was before he started the job. Brian and his crew were fantastic, they did a awesome job. Brian even called after the job was completed to be sure I was satisfied with the work. I would highly recommend them for any tree services needed and I will call them in the future."

"We were very pleased by our overall experience with Littleton Earthworks.  We contacted Dan about removing the overgrowth and installing a functional garden.  Dan took time to understand our goal, and then described what he thought would need to be done in great detail.  We have been enjoying the result all summer, and look forward to many more happy years with our garden.  Other reviewers have mentioned many of the same positive experiences that we had.  Instead of repeating them, I'll add in a few "intangibles" that impressed us.
1.  As I mentioned, Dan described the project in great detail, and drew us up a carefully itemized estimate.  This helped us know what we were getting into, what parts of the project we had to understand, what the tradeoffs were, and what questions we had to ask.
2.  When I asked Dan if he carried insurance and workmens' compensation for his workers, he responded promptly and even said that he appreciated being asked this question.
3.  The crew took good care of their tools and machinery and were obviously very skilled at operating their equipment even in tricky conditions.
4.  I was impressed to see how much detail went into setting the walls, and how carefully the mason laid the base of the wall.
5.  We found everyone on the crew to be friendly and responsive.
6.  The estimate included a few "touch up" jobs around the work area, some of which we had asked for, and other ideas that Dan suggested to improve our yard.  These were a small part of the overall project, but made a big difference and were very convenient to have finished all at one time.

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Talking with a septic pro before planting trees near your tank is best to ensure the roots won’t interfere with your septic system. However, there is an easy way to figure out where to plant a tree—but you’ll need to know how tall it can get when it’s fully grown. For instance, if the tree can reach 50 feet, plant it at least 50 feet from your septic system.

Yes, the same rules discussed above apply to your neighbor: They can trim one of your trees as long as they’re only cutting the portion that extends into their property. Your neighbor is not allowed to access your property without permission, nor can they cut past the property line.

In most cases, you should not use a pruning seal on trees after trimming. Applying a sealant can interfere with the tree's natural healing process, and it does not guarantee protection from pathogens. Instead of sealing the cut, the best practice is to support the tree's natural recovery by providing it with plenty of water and a dormant-style fertilizer. However, there are exceptions. Pruning seals may be recommended for very vulnerable species, like elm trees, in areas where dangerous diseases such as Dutch elm disease are prevalent. In these specific situations, the protection offered by a sealant can outweigh its downsides. For advice tailored to your situation, especially after cutting large branches, it is best to consult a local tree trimming professional.

Transplanting a palm tree is a similar process except for a couple of important differences. First, their root ball doesn’t need to be as large as a “true” tree, which makes them a bit easier to dig up and move around. Second, they struggle more with taking root and staying upright in a new location, so it’s important to give them extra support when staking.

Unfortunately, most of the time you’re out of luck if a neighbor’s tree blocks your view. You don’t have a right to a view, so if you have a tree that’s near the property line but on your neighbor’s property, you can’t cut it to be able to take in a majestic mountain or a beautiful sunrise. In some communities, however, there are ordinances protecting scenic views. Checking into your local laws can help you determine your rights in this situation.
