"Outstanding service! I am so impressed with the work done on my yard. I had multiple tree stumps located on a tricky hillside slope. Other companies passed on the job because of the difficult terrain, but William was able to grind them down with ease. Not only did he complete the tough job, but he also did a fantastic job cleaning up the debris afterward. The yard looks great. Reliable, skilled, and highly recommended—I would absolutely use him again!"

"I had two semi-dead ash trees threatening my deck and my house. These 70ft trees were along my property line and less than 20 feet from my deck. I was afraid that a severe storm would bring them down. Mr. Slocum brought studied the situation. We agreed on a price and he brought in his equipment and crew who skillfully brought them down piece by piece. I was amazed how accurately and carefully he got the job done. They put on a fine show. They stacked the big pieces onto a truck, ground up the rest and hauled it all away. I was very please with the work. They had to navigate their trucks and equipment through some other a large maple trees to do this job and didn't damage a twig. These things weighed tons. I would certainly call them back the next time I needed tree work."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The cost of trees varies massively based on the size of the tree and the species. A small Colorado spruce can cost as little as $30, but a golden rain tree of the same size can cost $90. Large trees can cost $1,500 or more, depending on their species and height.

If it’s only a smaller branch that has died and you’re keeping an eye on the tree, it’s probably nothing to worry about. But if other nearby branches start dying off as well, or a very large branch dies, then you likely have a bigger problem. It’s time to watch for diseases and other problems and possibly get professional guidance on how to proceed.

No, homeowners insurance typically does not cover the cost of removing a dead, sick, or rotting tree that is still standing. Insurance is designed to protect against sudden and unexpected accidents, whereas a tree dying or rotting over time is considered a maintenance issue. Coverage usually only applies after a tree has fallen and caused damage to your property.

Tree removal costs typically don’t include stump removal, as that technically falls into a different service. The company you hire may offer the service for an additional fee; ask them if they offer it to ensure you get the best tree stump removal costs possible.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.
