"I am very happy with the work the Marquis team did for me. Three people; one is a woman. I applaud hiring women for this type of work; thank you, Marquis. They did exactly what I wanted done; the correct amount of trimming of big branches to open up more light on my deck and stop leaves and birds from making a mess throughout the year. I did not have to tell the crew what to do; they are the professionals and did a great job. I will be recommending Marquis to others; their quote came in much lower than other arborists; and I was very pleased with the result. GOOD value. Good cleanup."

"I cannot say enough positive things about Palmer Tree Service. Their response time was immediate when I contacted them for a quote, and Gustavo was very friendly and knowledgeable when he came out. Their quote was BY FAR the best out of three other companies, and their work was top-notch and worth every penny. We had a huge hemlock completely taken down, along with two other mature trees thinned out- none of which were easy to access with heavy equipment. The arborists were obviously masters at their job and amazing to watch, as much of it was done by hand. After the job was done, they cleaned up every last log and piece of sawdust; you couldn't tell they were ever there. I would give 10 stars if I could... and I am a very critical person!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Elivon and his team got the job well done with high quality and skillful execution, highly recommend you get the quote from them before you make a decision. S1 team responded the call right away and scheduled the quick appointment to discuss with me the tree care concern, project timelines and check the situation and any safety issue. The quote is reasonable price compared with the others. ( Very competitive !!! You can save a lot of money) They answered question quick and professionally. They did the work within three day after I contacted them, the crane arrived on time and cleaned the ground after removed several big maple trees and hauled away debris. When they found the disease/unstable/dead trees nearby they cut it without extra charge. I definitely will rehire them and recommend to my friends who need the tree service. Thank you S1 team"

"I met with Mr Lopez for an estimate and agreed to his fair price, then he told me he had a crew in the area and they could do the job today. The crew did a fantastic job and cleaned up like they were never there. I would definitely recommend them and would call them myself if we need more tree work. I am very happy"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best time to prune Japanese flowering cherry trees depends on where you live and the type of flowering cherry tree. Some trees benefit from being pruned toward the end of winter or early spring, after the last freeze. Meanwhile, other trees do well after blooming, in late spring or early summer. Avoid pruning your flowering cherry tree in the early winter, as this encourages open wounds that can lead to infections or infestations.

In most cases, your neighbor is responsible for roots from their tree that cause damage to your property. If your pavement, the foundation of your home, or a fence is damaged by roots from a neighbor’s tree, you likely will have legal recourse for financial relief. While it’s better to notify your neighbor of any problems you notice as soon as they arise to avoid costly damage, there are some instances where filing a civil suit is your only recourse. Your homeowner’s insurance company might wish to do so on your behalf if you file a claim.

Licensing requirements for arborists, also known as tree surgeons, vary by state and municipality. Many areas require a license, which often involves specialized education and experience. Even if not mandated, it's wise to hire a licensed professional as they tend to have more experience. Beyond licensing, look for certifications from organizations like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), as this indicates a higher level of expertise. Certified arborists must typically pass a comprehensive exam. Always confirm that the arborist has a business license and is fully insured to protect yourself from liability. Seeking positive recommendations from local homeowners is also a good step in finding a qualified professional.

Generally, avoid trimming trees in the summer (with the exception of pruning fruit trees as needed). Trees use a lot of energy in the summer, most of which is relegated to new growth. If you chop it too early, you could stunt the next season's growth. Again, when in doubt, do some research based on the specific tree type.

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.
