Customers say: Quick response

"Andre and his crew did an outstanding job rebuilding my old wood deck and replacing it with Trex decking. His communication was excellent. He clearly explained issues that were discovered in the process of tearing down the old deck. The crew was polite, efficient and did a great job cleaning up after, leaving the job site impeccable. Andre’s pricing was also very reasonable and competitive. I would highly recommend AK General Services for your projects!"

"Cleber and his crew did a great job removing and replacing the old deck surface. Done with the carpentry in one day, cleaned up very well (my father taught me that you can tell the quality of the work by how clean they leave the job site) and honored his original estimate. I would recommend Handyman Mason."

"Bob Pino did an excellent job on multiple handyman tasks in my home. He responded quickly, was very knowledgeable, thorough, professional and skilled in the work done. He completed smaller tasks and efficiently repaired an entryway ceiling, with a second person assisting to get it done quickly. His workmanship was skilled and he did a great job with numerous small repairs, installed an under cabinet TV and patiently explained pros and cons of different repair options. I recommend him highly."

Customers say: True professional

"Chris has an expertise that couples with his professionalism and gets the job done efficiiently and with perfection. I have been using Chris for 24 years and he is the best to get the job well done. Chris sanded and painted the front and side exterior doors a shade of yellow. With a white ranch with black shudders this certainly adds class thanks to Chris. I recommend him highly Linda A"

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

No. In most cases, it’s not colder or freezing temperatures that affect decking materials but the amount of moisture that seeps into the materials as a result. For example, wood decking material is more likely to suffer from rot or decay when exposed to excess moisture from snow or ice. An extreme change in temperature can cause wood to expand or contract, but only if it’s not properly treated beforehand.

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.

In general, you need a footing at each corner of your deck, and within 8 feet of each other. So, how many you need depends on the size and shape of your deck, plus any local building codes. It also depends on factors like the load capacity of your soil and the weight of your deck. You can find a footing calculator online or contact a pro for support.

Yes, transforming a deck into a sunroom is an absolute possibility. Building a sunroom involves framing in the deck area with walls, adding windows, and affixing a roof. This project is not an easy task, but it does provide a stylish addition to your house. Not all deck designs support this type of renovation project, so consult a professional deck builder before beginning.

Both deck footings and deck posts help prop up your deck. However, footings are the bottommost parts of a deck that touch the ground. They’re usually made of concrete. Posts are pieces of wood that attach to the top of the footings with brackets. They run upwards and connect to the underside of your deck to support its weight.
