"Still Services recently updated all of the plumbing lines in our home in addition to re-plumbing our bathroom in conjunction with a remodel. PVC pipes are easy to cut out and replace if you have minimum plumbing knowledge. To replace a portion of PVC pipe by yourself, use a hacksaw to cut out the damaged portion and empty out the water. The air admittance valve, or AAV, is a spring-loaded mini-vent that sits right next to your washer. This gives the washer’s plumbing system the air it needs when water enters or drains.

Toilets typically connect to your main vent stack, a vertical pipe that runs through all finished levels of your home and exits through the roof. It’s located behind the walls, but if you have an unfinished basement or a utility closet, you may find a portion of it running the vertical length of the space. Some basement toilets use an air admittance valve instead, which is a small vent located in the wall directly behind the toilet that extends upward a few feet from the drain.
