"I had a rusted-out damper in my chimney. I contacted several companies and got estimates for the work, which included removing the rusted damper and replacing the chimney cap with a new stainless steel cap. 5 Star had the best price by far, and had a lot of experience doing this work. The gentleman who came out and gave me the estimate was very nice and very knowledgeable, answering all my questions. Scheduling the work was easy and they were able to accommodate my work schedule. The work was done this morning. They were very clean, showed me how to use the new chimney cap, and even cleaned out the chimney. They were in and out in less than an hour and the price was as estimated."

"They did a GREAT job! They first ran into permit problems in Brookline, but Rich (?) was able to fix that and didn't charge me extra. Then on the day of the work, they showed up and worked through to the next day and removed the whole chimney from the inside without making a dent in the house. I was MOST impressed with this as I have 2 small children so dust is a big deal to me. Since they are so prompt and efficiently, i was able to coordinate with my roofer to come in on the same day to seal up the roof. At the end of the day, you couldn't even tell that someone had removed a chimney just minutes before. Highly recommended!

"I learned that the flues did not need cleaning, but that there was about 4 feet of flue lining that was missing from the top of the chimney--there are ceramic tiles in there and for whatever reason, 4 ft were missing from the top. They replaced this with a liquid/concrete/solidifying material to seal/line the flues"

We had estimates from other providers, including one that proposed a cost 4x higher. M.J. Masonry did great work, were incredibly responsive and prompt, and the price was fantastic. "While the water stains appeared in the same exact spot, Fabio claimed it was my roof that needed to replaced not the flash this time.  He wouldn't accept responsibility and left convinced that it was the roof.    I got a second opinion, the second roofer said the flash had been wrapped too tight, and did not go high enough up the chimney.  He also suggested that I get a cover for the chimney.  The second guy did me a solid and caulked the chimney to prevent further water damage temporarily but it will eventually need to be done over again.  Fabio refused to accept responsibility and a year and half later, I will have to do the job all over again.  Very disappointing..."
