The work was done on time by professional workmen. They also patched up some loose bricks at no additional cost. Also cleared out most of the house gutters!
I would highly recommend this company!

We recently moved into a new house. Had MacDonald's check out the chimney. Discovered we lacked sufficient venting of our furnace. They put in a long flexible vent. They seemed very knowledgeable. They showed up a bit late after not showing up for the original date (heavy rain). Always responded to phone calls, though. Feeling much more safe now.

We have a fireplace insert, so the cleaner has to remove the baffle and then clean out the stainless steel liner.
We called three companies; MacDonald answered right away, the 2nd company called back later with a higher quote; the 3rd company didn't call back at all.
Richard (think that was his name) came on time and did a very professional job

Rich arrived with a couple of guys. Rich didn't actually do the work. The other two guys did. They removed the old fireplace insert as agreed upon. They installed the stainless steel chimney cap and dampner but never filled in the mortar and joints because Rich said it was too cold to do the mortar/sealer, even though the two guys were able to install the chimney cap using the cement for the crown. Rich wanted to give me the sealer and sprayer to do the sealing of the chimney when it got warmer. I told him no, I am paying you to do the work as part of the job you quoted me on. I will keep it here for when you come back to finish the job. I paid him in full with the expectation that he would be back when it was warmer to complete the job. I began calling Rich in April to get him back to my house to finish the job. Rich answered my first call and he stated "you don't even know how busy I am" and fit me into his schedule for two weeks later. The day came when I expected him to come and finish the job that he was paid 100% for and he didn't show nor did he call to cancel. I have left dozens of messages for him for him to call me regarding this and he has never returned any of many calls/messages. I even sent a message to him through Angie's list that he has never responded to. Now that it is fall and soon will be colder, I am going to want to use my fireplace but its still not completed.  I don't want to have to call someone in to finish this job that I already paid Rich to do. I would like the job finished ASAP or money refunded so that I can hire someone else to complete the job.

Response from MacDonald's Chimney Sweep
"There was confusion on the job pricing, the waterproofing was not part of the $900.00 quote. I was willing to give him the $60.00 worth of waterproofing materials so that he would not have to pay me to return."

Rich was a pleasure to deal with. He gave me a very fair price, came out on time when we needed him with a 4-man crew, put in the liner quickly and efficiently and we have had no problems since. A very good experience and I would highly suggest using him, and will do so myself again if ever needed.

MacDonald was able to squeeze in our appointment on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving after I told him we were hoping to use the fireplace on Thanksgiving. They arrived a few minutes late, but I knew it was because they were trying to squeeze in my appointment between a few others. 3 people arrived and finished the chimney cleaning for 2 fireplaces in about 30 minutes. We used the fireplace next day and we had no issues. We were really happy with their services and the price! Much cheaper than some others I had talked to. It was $155 for the first fireplace and $100 for the second. Great value and the fact that they sent 3 people over made the cleaning really fast and efficient. Would highly recommend MacDonald for their chimney sweeping services.

They did a GREAT job! They first ran into permit problems in Brookline, but Rich (?) was able to fix that and didn't charge me extra. Then on the day of the work, they showed up and worked through to the next day and removed the whole chimney from the inside without making a dent in the house. I was MOST impressed with this as I have 2 small children so dust is a big deal to me. Since they are so prompt and efficiently, i was able to coordinate with my roofer to come in on the same day to seal up the roof. At the end of the day, you couldn't even tell that someone had removed a chimney just minutes before. Highly recommended!

These guys did an outstanding job.  Prompt, professional, honest, friendly, kept a neat work site, beautiful work and had an excellent price.  My house was built in 1906 and the old chimney above the roofline was in pretty rough shape - ready to come down.  I had four different companies that I found on Angies List come over and give estimates.  Rich was the first person to come for an estimate and ultimately the one I chose.  His estimate was lower than the competition and gave a good first impression.  They came over a couple weeks later to do the rebuild and I couldn't be more pleased.  They were here for two days, always here when they said they would be and immediately set-up staging to demolish the old chimney.  The new chimney is beautiful - they used nice looking bricks and installed a nice cap.  It's a brand new chimney, but it looks like it's always been here.  I would highly recommend these guys.

Came on time, reviewed what I wanted, went over what he was going to do.  Put down plastic sheet to protect rug, thorough & efficient.  Even repaired something that could be a safety hazard for no extra cost.  Will use them again.  Reasonable.

We originally had hired Rich and his crew to inspect and clean the chimney (we just bought our home this Spring and wanted to make sure everything was up to snuff for fall/winter.), and to install a chimney cap.  Upon inspection Rich showed me the lack of lining in the chimney.  A week later they arrived on time to tackle the chimney cap installation, furnace flue cleaning, installing the chimney liner, and repoint a few bricks--about 4 1/2 hours of work for the team of three.  Rich and his team were polite, punctual, and professional.  I have no hesitation in recommending MacDonald's Chimney Sweep, and would hire them again should the occasion arise in the future.
