"NE Foundation Crack Repair did a full repoint of our late-1800s basement (which looked like it hadn't been done ever!). Staff were super responsive during estimate and project processes. Cost was reasonable. What I appreciated most was how communicative and respectful the guys who completed the job were. Overall, we are so happy to have used this company."

"Rob and Tom are the masters at their craft, no pun intended. It was a pleasure working with them both to ease any concerns we had about our foundation. They were helpful and spent an hour with me on the phone walking through every detail of what my concerns were, educating me, and never once selling me (I lead a sales team so that was huge), to eventually understand the problem and paint the picture on how they can help. We have other needs at the house and will definitely use them in the future. Check around like I did on price and you will not beat them for the quality they provide. Sure some may be cheaper, but they will not put the pride of work into what they did with our house. The before and after work with the pictures they provide is pretty telling and they show you the materials used, walk you through what happens, and how this will help. Can't wait to use them again for other projects and they receive my highest recommendation. Thanks again guys!"

"I was impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. He installed a French drain system with a vapor barrier on the walls. He prepped the area to protect our belongings, made sure everything was cleaned up after the end of each day, and provided exceptional service and quality. I would highly recommend him!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Professionally done brick repointing can last 20 to 30 years, sometimes longer. However, the exact lifespan depends on several factors, including the quality of the mortar, the skill of the mason, and exposure to weather. If you live in an area with harsh weather or frequent freeze-thaw cycles, you may need to repoint more often. Repointing that is done as a DIY project may only last 10 to 15 years. It's time to repoint when you notice signs of mortar failure, such as crumbling or missing mortar, holes, or vines growing between the bricks. Regular inspections can help you catch these issues early.

No, it’s not recommended to attach shutters to brick without drilling. Brick is dense and built to last, so adhesives and shortcut methods don’t usually cut it. Even heavy-duty glue struggles to hold up over time—especially against wind, moisture, and temperature changes. Most no-drill options are made for materials like vinyl or wood, not solid masonry. Skipping the drill might seem easier, but it puts your shutters—and anything below them—at risk. For a secure, lasting install, drilling is the way to go. It takes more effort up front, but the result is safer and more reliable.

The premise for painting a brick building is fairly simple: Prime the bricks to seal the surface and apply the top coat to protect your brick home. However, it’s easy to miss a few important steps if you’re starting from a raw brick surface and don’t know the basics of how to paint brick. So be sure to reach out to a local professional painter if you have any reservations about correctly painting your brick house.

Yes, you can paint stone on the exterior of a house. It’s important to properly prep the stone by cleaning off dirt and debris. You’ll want to apply at least two coats of paint to get the most even and complete coverage. Any pinholes or missed spots, however small, can allow moisture to get into the masonry and potentially cause the paint to blister and peel from the stone.

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.
