"John responded quickly when I called to drywall a couple of walls that had been damaged due to a water leak. He came over in a couple of days to give a quote and scheduled the work in the same week. He arrived promptly as per schedule and finished the work on time and professionally. Very happy with his promptness and professionalism and would definitely use again.

Small jobs welcome

"After posting the query on HomeAdvisor Gary was the first to call us and called very soon after I submitted the project. Leading up to this we had the unfortunate experience with the previous person who had assured us the drywall would be installed and paint-ready in June, and that four-plus months later hanging the drywall was still not complete, much less mudding and sanding. Gary came in and pulled everything together, repairing the drywall that was not hung correctly, putting up the remaining new drywall, and finishing the surfaces throughout the house to provide us with truly paint-ready surfaces. My wife and I are extremely pleased with the results and recommend Gary to anyone who wants to have their drywall walls and ceilings be the talk of the town -- and also the county."

"Pedro was great and very professional. He was prompt and came at the agreed upon time and completed the job efficiently. I had a hole behind my stove that needed patching and Pedro went above and beyond and fixed the sidewall as well. Definitely would recommend."

"Erick and his team did a fantastic job, snd fast. Our dining room walls and ceiling needed a lot of work to prepare for painting, including wallpaper removal and repairing plaster. They completed the whole job fast, and very thorough with attention to detail. They also did a great job cleaning up and managing dust/debris. I will definitely recommend them!"

Customers say: Quality work

"This was my first experience ever using home advisor. I signed up and was contacted within 5 minutes by Mike of AA ceilings, this was the only person who contacted me out of the 3 companies I picked from . He was very Knowledgable on the phone and came out to check out the job within days. He was very detailed when explaining everything in person and seemed like the right person so I went thru with him for the install . He assured me the ceiling would be commercial grade and came the next week for the install. Mikes team showed up half hour before schedule which was great and got to work right away. They exceeded my expectations and cuts were perfect arounds pipes and ceiling was a 10 out of 10. One of the most important things for me was when they were done they cleaned up and swept and you would not even know they were there. Would highly recommend them and look forward to working with them again in the future. Thanks again AA ceilings to Mike and his crew!!!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

The tool you use to sand plaster will depend on the size of the project. If you’re just working on a small section of your wall to get rid of an uneven spot on the surface, hand-sanding might work. However, for larger projects, a drywall sander can make a huge difference when it comes to both time and elbow grease—and an orbital sander can help for detailed areas such as around ceiling fans.

While not always necessary, you can glue a drywall ceiling in addition to using screws or nails. Drywall is typically secured to ceiling joists with fasteners, which is often sufficient. However, adding construction adhesive can offer benefits like preventing sagging, bridging gaps, and reducing air leaks for better energy efficiency. It may also be used for specific acoustic or insulation needs. On the other hand, many professionals advise against it because properly placed screws make the drywall structural, glue doesn't add strength, and it makes future repairs or replacements significantly more difficult. Ultimately, it's best to follow local building codes and project-specific requirements to decide if adhesive is right for your ceiling.

Yes, drywall nail pops are a common occurrence in homes, both new and old, resulting from the settling and shifting of the structure over time. Though not present in every room or on every wall, encountering nail pops in different sections of a home is not unusual, particularly if the temperature, humidity, or foundation has experienced changes.

Plastering and skimming are two different techniques for finishing walls. Plastering involves applying a thick layer of a plaster mixture—typically containing gypsum, lime, cement, sand, and water—to create a new surface. This process often requires multiple coats and is used for repairing significant damage or creating decorative textures. Skimming, on the other hand, is a technique that involves applying a thin layer of drywall compound or joint compound over an existing surface to smooth it out, covering minor imperfections, small cracks, or uneven textures for a polished look. Plastering is generally more costly and labor-intensive than skimming. Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they refer to different processes and materials.
