"Extremely knowledgeable both in his primary area of expertise (electrical) but also has some keen insights and advice on other home maintenance items as they relate to electrical installations. Definitely worth listening to and I will be hiring him again for additional work. His whole approach is "I do the work as if it was my own home". So, if you care about your home and having the work done right, then you can't ask for better than that."

"New washer was causing circuit breakers to flip on my electrical panel. Mr. Handyman, who does my home repair and maintenance, referred me to McCurdy Electric emphasizing that they are the best in the business. Contacted McCurdy Electric and from that first phone call was in great hands. From Judy in the Office to Owner John who came out to meet and prepare estimate, professional and kind all the way. Logoed truck, always on time. Upgraded service to 100 AMP. Shebeeb and Brandon dug the trenches, ran the wires and quite honestly worked hard getting me back up with electricity before they left. McCurdy Electric even pulled the required permits and met with the City Inspector at my home. Just sat back with a book and let the professionals do their magic. Will not hesitate to contact them the next time I need electrical work done. Five Stars. --Charlene in West Peabody, MA"

"Amaury is fantastic! We originally hired him in fall of 2020 to replace our outdated electrical heat baseboards before selling our condo. He is now our go-to electrician for all things electrical in our new home. Heâ s offers very competitive pricing, is extremely prompt and always helpful. 10/10 recommend!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When comparing electrical project quotes in Andover, be cautious of vague estimates lacking permit details or clear timelines. Watch for contractors who avoid discussing local code compliance or can’t provide references from Andover homeowners. Reliable professionals should outline permit requirements, offer proof of insurance, and deliver written documentation. Avoid those who request cash-only payments or pressure you into quick decisions, as these are warning signs.

Helpful?

For new homeowners in Andover, start by scheduling a thorough electrical panel inspection to confirm your system meets current safety standards. Upgrade to GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor areas, and install whole-house surge protection to safeguard against local storms. Hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are essential, and outdoor lighting or generator-ready wiring is recommended, especially for larger Andover properties prone to power interruptions.

Helpful?

In Andover, a common mistake is underestimating the need for proper permits and attempting DIY electrical work beyond what’s allowed. Homeowners often overlook future electrical needs, especially in older homes with limited panel capacity. Delaying projects until late fall can lead to weather-related setbacks, and selecting the lowest bid may result in incomplete or non-compliant home wiring, which can complicate future home sales or renovations.

Helpful?

After completing electrical projects in Andover, promptly schedule your final inspection and keep all related documentation for future reference. Update your electrical panel labels and test new installations such as GFCI outlets and surge protectors. For older homes, consider annual electrical safety inspections. Before winter, check outdoor connections, register any warranties, and maintain contact with your local professional for ongoing support and future home wiring needs.

Helpful?

Andover’s climate directly affects electrical projects, especially outdoor work. Winter snow and ice can delay installations, while spring flooding near rivers may require extra precautions for basement wiring. Summer thunderstorms increase the need for surge protection, and fall is a popular time for generator installations due to frequent outages. Plan major outdoor electrical projects between late spring and early fall for the best results in Andover.
