Customers say: Quick response

"The Stafford brothers do top quality work for a reasonable price. They show up when they say they will and they work with precision. You will not have to worry about the quality of work if you hire these guys. They added 300 ft2 on to my home with a kitchen. It was a pretty major project for me. My wife and I are very pleased with these guys. They helped me out a lot and made the process easy. The Staffordâ s actually do all the carpentry work on the project. Most companies you will call will subcontract out the entire project and charge you a 15% fee on top. If your looking for top quality without getting gouged call these guys."

"The kitchen remodel is beautiful. David Devall is a perfectionist and a highly skilled craftsman. He gave fantastic suggestions to make the kitchen more functional. Whenever a problem arose, David was always there to be sure it was resolved. He was very easy to work with. We loved him so much he will be doing a bathroom remodel for us in the future."

Small jobs welcome

"This is a great company. Darrell came when he said he would and always on time. He is always responsive to my calls and willing to answer any questions I might have. He is extremely accommodating with my schedule and follows up to ensure his crew is doing quality work and what is expected. His crew was wonderful, respectful of my home while doing the work and they have great work ethics. Every job that he has done for me, he walked through the project and followed up to make sure all my expectations were being met. I strongly recommend DNS Construction as this is a true professional."

"From start to finish it was a great experience. I have had some mishaps in the past with other contractors and this was the best experience so far. Very honest, punctual and neat. The finish work is beautiful and I can’t ask for anything better than what I received. I would recommend them to anyone!!! 5 Stars"

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

A split-level home is one that has several staggered floors connected by short staircases, while a split floor plan separates the primary bedroom from the rest of the bedrooms. Split floor plans are most often found in single-story homes, while split-level homes are always at least two stories.

You have three options in terms of professionals who can draw up blueprints: a draftsperson, an architect, or a structural engineer. A draftsperson can sometimes draw up plans for new construction, but they more often work from approved plans for alterations or to provide 3D drawings. Architects are usually the best option for standard residential construction projects. Structural engineers might be necessary for custom home builds or for alterations that could affect your home’s structural integrity. Draftsmen cost the least of the three, followed by architects and then structural engineers.

The only real drawback to green building is that it’s more expensive up front, with per-square-foot prices sitting 33% higher than what you’d pay to build a traditional home. The higher cost is due to more expensive building materials and more labor to ensure every aspect of the home is as efficient as possible. However, green buildings often save money in the long run, so this is just a temporary downside.

Building permits serve a few purposes, the most important of which is to keep you and the people around you safe by ensuring your contractor does work safely and to code. Permits also help your municipality tax your property appropriately, as taxes are based on land improvements and the upgrades you make to your home. Finally, permits ensure your project won’t have a negative impact on the environment or your neighbors.

Hiring a contractor with knowledge about historic renovations and reviewing their previous work is important. You can find a historic home renovation contractor by calling your local historic preservation office, historical society, or any local historic museums nearby. The staff may have suggestions for specialized contractors who have worked for them. You can also ask them about historic home restorations that you have seen and liked in your area to get recommendations for pros.
