"There are a few points that might help to give a more complete picture of this situation, and with all due respect I would like to include them. After completing the original project in 2016, you posted a very positive review (all A ratings), and had us back a year later to perform another project of similar size to rebuild and stain a large multi-level deck off of the rear of the house, You also gave us a perfect rating when that project was completed. A year later, you called with regards to the peeling paint issue that was becoming noticeable. I had never run into this issue before, so I contacted the Sherwin Williams representative to look at it with us. After walking through the project and discussing possible causes for the damage, we decided to bring out some reputable painting contractors with extensive experience to weigh in on the possible causes and solution to the damage. We did not want to cover up whatever was causing the peeling (and some rotted trim) without identifying and fixing the problem. Every single professional that examined the job concluded that water was getting in behind the siding, and the result was the peeling and rot (on approximately 5% of the siding / paint job). After meeting with the Sherwin Williams representative and myself, you opted to not only do the repairs necessary to restore the affected areas, but to do a complete exterior paint job, including a large carport area that was not part of the original scope of work that we were contracted to do. As far as I can tell, the only difference that you and I have is the degree of responsibility that I have with regards to the damages. You feel that you are entitled to reimbursement for an entire paint job on your home, including the repairs. I feel that my responsibility is to repair and restore the damaged and peeling areas back to perfect condition. I spoke with the contractor that was hired to do the repairs and painting, and questioned him about the cost of the actual repair work and prepping, priming and finish painting necessary to restore the damaged areas. His price for that specific scope of work, labor and materials, was $3,000.00. He also told me that you had asked him the same question, and that he had given you the same price. At the conclusion of the project, you called me and demanded full payment for the work (($15,400.00). In response, I offered to start a claim with my insurance company to address your expenses. You accepted, and I contacted my insurance agent, who then opened a claim on your behalf. Within a few months, you negotiated a settlement with the adjusters in the amount of $7,700.00, at which time you and your wife signed off on the claim, agreeing that you were satisfied with the settlement, and that no further collection activity would be undertaken. Never the less, shortly thereafter, you called me and demanded that I pay you the balance. The fact that you were reimbursed $7,700.00 for $3000.00 worth of repairs and painting seems to me to be quite generous. I am truly sorry for the inconvenience and aggravation that you were put through due to this situation. I very much enjoyed the working relationship that we had, and wish it would have had a better ending."
