"The crew did a very thorough job installing blow installation and spraying pest control chemicals in the attic. They also changed the duct work and cleaned the coils on the ac. They went above what we asked for."

"Deep South AC was doing a repair at a neighborâ s house & I coincidentally needed to have an HVAC company check my system. Devin was very nice, courteous, & took the time to assess my needs. I called the office to see schedule a service call since they were just across the street. I completely understood when I was told their schedule was pretty full since it was a Friday, a short week following Memorial Day, & would probably have to come back another day. Next thing I know, Devin was ringing my doorbell to say he completely checked my system & said everything was fine. He recommended a service to improve the efficiency of my system & said his office would send a quote. Super fast service, friendly, courteous, & professional. Iâ ll definitely hire them in the future for my HVAC needs. I highly recommend! Great job, Deep South!"

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can run an attic fan with the AC on. In fact, you don’t have a choice with a passive attic fan. Plus, when an attic fan draws out hot air from the attic, it helps regulate the temperature of your whole home, so your AC doesn't have to work as hard.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.

Freon will go in the refrigerant lines near the back of your AC unit. Look for small ports with caps on a thin copper line—the Freon goes into those ports. You are best off hiring a licensed HVAC professional who can complete the job safely and correctly.

At a minimum, an HVAC system should be serviced once per year. However, a twice-a-year service schedule—once in the spring for the cooling system and once in the fall for the heating system—is often recommended, especially for older systems, heat pumps, or in climates with extreme temperatures. Regular service, which includes inspection, cleaning, and maintenance, ensures the system runs efficiently, helps prevent costly breakdowns during peak seasons, and can extend the unit's lifespan. You can also schedule a service if you notice issues like poor performance or strange noises.

While it is possible to add Freon to your AC unit yourself, it is not recommended. In fact, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prohibits the handling of Freon without a license. Freon is a dangerous gas that can cause irreversible damage to your AC or yourself if not installed correctly. It is worthwhile to hire a professional to add Freon to your AC.
