"David was very honest and hard working. He was a pleasure to work with. My deck looks new and it had rotten wood and carpenter ants damage before David repaired it."

"My husband and I recently hired Preservation Projects to remove an old existing wood privacy fence and replace with a new one. From start to finish they were outstanding. The company is owned and operated by Champion and Aden Hammons and that’s who you will deal with. The communication was timely and Aden was patient in answering all my questions. We received bids from 4 companies and their bid was, by far, the most affordable. They got our job scheduled quickly and gave us a 3 day window of completion, but 90% of the work was completed on the first day. They removed all the debris and now we have an amazing fence! Their professionalism and skill cannot be beat! I HIGHLY recommend Preservation Projects for any work you may need—you will not be disappointed!! They were so meticulous in their work that they even saved a robin’s nest with 4 bright blue eggs! These guys are quite simply the BEST!"

"I have been looking for someone to do this job for over a year, and he is the only one who actually showed up and he did a wonderful job! He is very skilled and communicates well. The finished job is lovely. He replaced all the fascia and carpentry work in front of the garage door, as well as all of the trim around it."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.
