I received an estimate for repairing my deck vs. replacing - which I was assured would be up to code without any future problems. The estimate started at 1,300 and final estimate was $2,000. I was prepared to give him the $1,000 CASH payment upfront, against my better instincts. When Dave arrived on site with lumber and materials, he handed me a handwritten contract. He had already started to work and did not request the CASH. I typed out the contract and clarified that I wanted to be sure the work was up to code and the deck would be safe - all rotten joists would be replaced along with the deck boards. As he was working, I saw the quality of his work and became alarmed. He placed one joist in crooked and said "I just made a mistake". He cut out a section of rot on another board and put in a piece of 2x4. He pried up deck boards and hammered down the existing screws - making unlevel. Left boards he had cut out in the yard, etc., etc. When he came inside after 5 hours of work, he requested $1000 CASH. I said my son would need to come and look at his work 1st. Then he told me he paid $300 for materials and intimidated me to the point of me giving him $500 cash, have him sign the typed copy of contract and wait for my son to inspect his work before proceeding. However, Dave came back to my property, took all of the lumber and materials without my knowledge! When I got back to him via text he wanted another $500 CASH to come back and meet with my son. The only reason I gave him cash was because of the $300 materials he had on my property. I later read on a review that he did a similar thing with someone else who filed a police report. I thought I was getting a professional and didn't bother to read any negative reviews prior to hiring him. I have filed a complaint with Angi's and am still awaiting a resolution.

Dave is pleasant, professional and prompt. He came and looked at the proposed job the day I sent the request and was working on it two days later. Whole job done with three days of work, no added charges or drama. I absolutely plan on asking him for further help going forward.

This guys name is David Vatter and I feel he is as incompetent as anyone you could ever hire for a fence. We had to request split and bowed fencing be replaced, and watch over his work every step of the way. His response it is the nature of the beast. His truck leaked oil on our driveway multiple times, even after he was told NOT to park there. We agreed on a discounted price, he accepted the final payment. The next day he called to complain and ask for more money. We were going to finish nail work on the fence and put in fill dirt because he cut the fencing too short and therefore refused his request. Two days later he trespassed on our property and removed the gates, loaded into his truck and left with them. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN! We have filed a police report.
