It's possible to paint over paneling without sanding if you use a primer that masks defects and provides a strong base layer for the final coat of paint to adhere to. Technically, yes, there are lawn “paints” that you can use to dye your lawn to a greener color, often made out of nontoxic biodegradable materials. This is a potential band-aid to your problem, but it rarely has perfect results. First, yellowed grass is usually frail and lacks the springiness of healthy grass, so your lawn may still look unhealthy no matter the color. Second, lawn paints only work for the short term, and wash away after a couple of months (depending on your climate).

Both paint and wallpaper can work in a bathroom, provided you choose high-quality products in either category. Washable vinyl wallpapers can stand up to bathroom humidity without peeling, as can semi-gloss or gloss paint finishes. However, if you’re someone who likes to redecorate often, paint may make it easier to change colors or designs more quickly. If you want full humidity protection and cleanability, tile or stone works better.

Dirty or not, you should always clean the wall beforehand. Even if the wall looks sparkling clean to the naked eye, it’s good practice to wipe it down with a damp rag and mild detergent. Leftover dirt, dust, and residue can create unsightly textures or interfere with the paint’s adherence to the wall. You’ll never regret cleaning it, but you might regret skipping this step.
