"We have used Cody for several home projects over the last five years and have never been disappointed. So when it came time to get a new roof Cody was our first and only choice. Cody has a great work ethic which is hard to find these days. He is professional, friendly, prompt and gets the job done in a timely manner and a reasonable price. His workmanship is always top notch! We have had several of the neighbors comment on how nice our roof looks, what a great job was done on it and how Promptly it was done. I wouldn t hesitate to recommend Marin s Construction, in fact 2 of my neighbors have already asked for his number."

"Wow! If you re looking for a reliable, highly-knowledgeable and skilled contractor in Central Kentucky, I cannot recommend Josiah highly enough. He installed our new dishwasher, and also took the time to help us strategize another home project we have in the works. He s an absolute wealth of information, and a pleasure to work with."

"Called Helton for a leak in a valley on a 4 year old dimensional shingle roof. Previous attempts to repair with another contractor were unsuccessful. Mr. Helton came out promptly to inspect. After discussing options to repair, I recommended the removal and replacement of the two opposing slopes for that valley. Mr. Helton agreed and wrote me an estimate for $800.00. I called a week later and Mr. Helton and his crew came out and replaced the roofing quickly. They matched the shingles with the same quality as used by the builder. I waited 6 months to add this report to see if the roof leaked again since we have not had much rain lately. No leaking. I did however find that they cracked a piece of vinyl siding when they let the used shingles fall to the ground. I did not call Mr. Helton since it is a small piece and I have to repair another piece on the other side of the house. No real issues with the services provided. Estimate writing is very simple compared to other companies. Very prompt."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.
