"I estimate I have just under $100k in electronics and appliances in my house. We have significant lightning storms in my location. To NOT have lightning suppression installed is significant risk in my mind based on my location in New Jersey. RS LIGHTNING PROTECTION was responsive with a quick cost estimate and a reasonable price based on my research for installation. By the way...installation is part art, such as bends in cable are not more than 90 degrees. It's not just about running grounded cables. This installation in conjunction with surge protection on my electrical panel performed by my electrician and cable protection gives me significant piece of mind that all my appliances and electronics are protected from lightning and any potential surge generated by a near strike. Mr Richard Sherlock knows his subject. Highly recommended. Five stars."

"I hired W B Lighting Rods/William Burden to install lightning rods on my home. I spoke to William on a Monday and by Thursday before 1 PM the lightning rods were installed on my home. William explained everything he was going to do before he did it. The lightning rods were affordable and most of all it gives me peace of mind knowing that my home is protected against lightning strikes and fire damage. I couldnâ t be happier with this company!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Lancaster, you can safely reset a tripped circuit breaker, press the reset button on a GFCI outlet, or replace light bulbs after switching off the power. Using an outlet tester from a local hardware store helps identify basic wiring issues. Never open electrical panels or attempt repairs on outdoor wiring. If you notice burning smells, buzzing, or sparks, contact a Lancaster electrician immediately for safety.

Helpful?

Electrical work in Lancaster can impact systems like HVAC units, well pumps, or security alarms, especially if they share circuits. If you notice your water heater, internet, or multiple appliances losing power after electrical changes, it may indicate a wiring issue. Homes with outbuildings or detached garages are especially prone to these problems. Consult a Lancaster professional to ensure all home systems remain reliable and safe.

Helpful?

To improve electrical safety in Lancaster homes, install tamper-resistant outlets, use secure outlet covers, and ensure GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces. Weather-resistant covers are especially important for barns or sheds. Consider motion-sensor lighting for pathways and outbuildings, and keep electrical panels locked or out of reach. Upgrading to whole-house surge protection adds another layer of safety for families.

Helpful?

Many Lancaster homes, especially older ones, may have knob-and-tube wiring or fuse boxes, which complicate upgrades and electrical safety improvements. Rural properties often require longer wiring runs to outbuildings, increasing the risk of voltage drops. If your home has crawl spaces, basements with moisture, or frequent use of extension cords, these factors can make electrical projects more challenging in Lancaster.

Helpful?

In Lancaster, electrical issues such as frequent breaker trips, hot outlets, or visible sparks should be addressed right away to prevent hazards. Upgrades like installing new outlets or fixtures can typically be scheduled. Before storm season, check for loose connections or exposed wiring. Rural homeowners should prioritize backup power options, as outages are more common in Lancaster’s outlying areas.
