"Had a radon mitigation installed. Trenton was punctual, professional, competent and very knowledgeable. Answered all questions to my complete satisfaction. Adam, the electrician ,with AJR Electric was incredible as well. My radon readings started out at 8-12, they are now reading 1 or less!! Would definitely use again and recommend to others!"

"Eric was great! Very thorough on his inspection, and even gave advice on things we didn't even think to ask about. He advised of the things that had the highest safety risk, right down to the small maintenance items like tightening screws. He recommended when to replace air filters, clean the fireplace and some optional things that could help us save money in the future. And the service didn't stop after the inspection, he continued follow-up about the radon testing, and the how to address the safety issues that needed to be fixed. He was very professional and friendly. I would definitely recommend him to friends and family."

"Lance is very knowledgeable and good with explaining the system. He gave the quote and also did the work. The company was able to accommodate my tight real estate needs timeline. One thing to have made it better would have been a quicker means of post testing the radon levels after installation. We had to go to another company to hire them to do the testing."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.

Your radon mitigation system may be loud because it’s time to replace it. Any sounds are usually from the inline fan that helps create the vacuum and resulting airflow. If you hear a new, loud mechanical or humming noise from your radon fan, it might be time to replace it. Most fans used in radon mitigation systems last up to 10 years, but may need to be replaced sooner.

The natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water can cause radon to appear in a home. The gas seeps into homes through cracks in foundations, walls, or floors, as well as through gaps around pipes or construction joints. Radon levels are influenced by soil composition, building materials, and ventilation. Poorly sealed or airtight homes can trap radon, allowing it to accumulate.

The fan that pulls the radon out of the air needs to run continuously, so you may see an increase in your electric bill once you install the mitigation system. Additionally, you may see an increase in your heating or cooling bills, as the fan can cause some loss of hot or cool air.

Keeping radon from getting into your home is much better than having to get rid of it once it's already indoors. While there may not be a way to fully prevent radon from getting into your home, there are things you can do to reduce the gas's ability to enter.

Sealing foundation cracks and openings can help keep the gas from seeping inside. Improving air flow, such as by opening windows, can also be helpful. If you're building your home from scratch, talk to your contractor about using radon-resistant construction to keep the gas out.
