"Gunny fixed two computers for us that were totally fouled up with viruses. He also installed a protection system that is guaranteed forever and seems to be working well. A few days after our desktop had been repaired the hard drive crashed. Gunny had just received a number of used desktops and replaced our failed unit at no charge. I am still appreciative. My only criticism of Gunny is that it is difficult to get him to return calls."

Phone Repair questions, answered by experts

In most cases, it is more affordable to repair a phone than to buy a new one. The average cost for a repair is $180, while a new smartphone typically costs from $720 to over $1,000. Even high-end repairs, costing around $350, are usually less than 50% of the replacement cost. For common issues like a broken screen, faulty charging ports, or non-working buttons, repair is the more economical option. However, there are exceptions; severe water damage, for instance, can be prohibitively expensive to fix, potentially making a replacement the better choice depending on your phone's value.

Fabric tears, faded material, broken frames, and malfunctioning retractable mechanisms often need professional attention.

Yes, it’s usually more cost-effective to repair a cellphone than replace it entirely. Phone repair services can be costly, depending on the extent and type of damage, but you’ll almost always spend less on repair than on replacement. Plus, replacing the phone might not help if the problem lies with your service provider, such as issues like dropped calls or poor network connection. However, it’s worth repairing your phone for mid-level issues like a cracked screen, damaged headphone jack, or smashed charger port.

While you can purchase a DIY phone screen replacement kit, it is generally not recommended. Replacing a phone screen is a complicated process that requires experience. Common mistakes during a DIY repair include damaging internal components when opening the phone, breaking internal pieces during removal, and failing to properly calibrate the new screen. These errors can lead to poor functionality, such as ghost touches or a partially working screen, and could even cause your phone to fail completely. For these reasons, it's best to hire a professional phone repair technician. If you make a mistake attempting the repair yourself, you may end up needing to pay a professional anyway, increasing your total cost.

Yes, most repair services include operational or system testing to ensure the system is functioning properly after the work is completed. It is recommended to confirm the scope of testing with your specific contractor or provider.
