"Eagle Insulation Co. arrived on date promised and was done in 2 days.  I found them reliable, responsible, and fair.  I had called to other insulation co. for estimates.  While these companies said they would come to my property and give me an estimate they never called back.  I emailed Eagle Insulation and received a call back in a timely manner.  Someone came out to inspect the property when they said they would and emailed me an estimate.  I sent back the signed forms and scheduled a date for the job to be done.  They came on that date, performed the task, ask questions when needed, and left my property in the same shape as they found it.  I will definitely use they again when needed.

"We are finishing the attic in our 100-year-old house, and we hired Smith & Son's to run the HVAC lines to the attic.  They said they could do the work in 2 days for $3,000.  Two workers came on the appointed day and worked for 2 days, apparently without much incident.  During their installation, they corrected minor flaws in our existing ductwork free of charge.   They also did do some "collateral damage" to some plaster, but we knew this was possible and weren't too upset about it.  At the end of the second day, they said they were completely finished but could not test the air flow to the attic b/c we had not yet drywalled and sealed it up.   Over the course of the next two weeks we had to call them out twice to correct installation errors.  While we would have preferred to have it right the first time, the errors were in "tricky" hard-to-detect locations, and they were prompt in their response.  They also sent workers out at the end of the day so that I didn't have to take time off work.

It should also be noted that they provided us with an initial written estimate.  Because our project was so tricky, they then brought out their expert installer Bill to re-examine.  They verbally quoted a different scope of work and updated the cost on the written estimate but not the scope.  A few months later when I hired them, the verbal estimate had been forgotten and they were prepared to perform per their written estimate.  When I reminded them about the verbal quote, they were very flexible and agreed to perform the revised scope of work in exchange for a few small concessions.  Ideally, I should have made sure the written quote had been properly adjusted.  But since I did not, I appreciated their willingness to try to work per a 2 month old verbal commitment.

The bottom line is that despite the initial installation problems (we feel like virtually no contractor does things right the first time), overall we were provided with a quality service at a fair price."

"Matt was quick to come give me an estimate and never made me feel pressured. His quote was much more reasonable than the other three quotes I received. I did receive a little bit cheaper quote on windows from one of the other companies but the salesman was very pushy and I didn't feel comfortable working with him. There was a slight miscommunication between Matt & the door manufacture regarding the finish on the door but Matt handled it and got the correct door re-ordered even though it caused a delay in the original timeline. Matt's crew was very friendly and efficient. I felt very comfortable having them in my home and they cleaned up very well after themselves. They did a great job installing the windows and doors and I'm looking forward to the money I will save since these are much more energy efficient than my previous doors. The front door adds a lot of curb appeal that was missing before. Overall I would highly recommend The Home Improvement Company."

"Went great! Eric showed up on time and was very knowledgeable & friendly. Liked that he gave me a couple options & was non pressure. He explained how the process works and what to expect when the job was done. Like that I dealt with the owner and he does almost all the work as well. I feel going with a small local company & will definitely have him insulate our home in the near future."

"I'm very happy with it. When I had my windows done throughout the house, I had one that cracked and they told me they would repair that when they put the garden window in and they did not do that. Some of the insulation that they put around the window is coming out and they were suppose to replace that, or at least bring it to me so that I could replace it and they did not do that. When I first decided on the garden window I thought I would pay it off monthly and they ran it through some company called GreenSky and meanwhile I changed my mind and decided to pay it off and get it over with and I still to this day get statements from GreenSky. I have called Bee window and the person has not called me back to call them and cancel that. I realize it might be already in the system and that may be why I may be getting a bill. I don't like it that I keep getting late charges. I don't own GreenSky a penny and I called and cancelled with them, but they want to hear from Bee window that the contract was cancelled and paid in full.
Some people might think it's nit picking about the cracked window and the insulation coming out from the windows. But when you pay a decent price for something, you expect it to do it's job.

"Mitch Thompson came out to speak with my husband and me. He worked around our work schedules.   We had in mind what we wanted and after talking with Mitch and seeing his window that he suggested we chose the window he showed us.  We wanted the inside to be wood like the Pella Windows we had purchased and installed ourselves in a patio room in the past 4 years.  We found thru Mitch's demonstration that our Pella's weren't very energy effecient.  We were thinking that the price of the Triple-Pane windows that Mitch showed us would be out of the ball park in cost.  But they really weren't at all.  They were safer (has a lock so the window doesn't go up past a certain point), they were far more effecient in energy savings AND they have a layer on the inside that we are staining to match the woodwork we are going to surround them with.  We have a set of 3 windows in a row in our living room and they are stained and surrounded with the oak wood we wanted to use and they look really great!!!  Mitch was very nice and listened to all our concerns and we had a nice experience working with Mitch and his company.
When the windows came into the company's shop Nick called to set up a time to install the windows.  Nick and his father, Carl, came out and got all 14 windows in and looking great and ready for our staining and inside work in a very short time.  They took away our old windows and all the packing of the new windows, left us with NO Clean-up at all. Nick and Carl were really great and Nick gave me tips to staining and finishing the trim to match.
From start to finish working with Mitch and his company, Thermal Window and Siding, Inc., has been a great experience and the windows are beautiful.
We would recommend Mitch and his company to anyone needing new windows.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, usually you will need some kind of vapor barrier on the exterior walls when the framing is attached to concrete and masonry surfaces.

Winterizing your outdoor plumbing keeps your outdoor spigot from freezing and potentially bursting. This includes draining residual water out of the pipe and spigot after turning the valve off, then removing garden hoses and other attachments from the spigot before winter comes. Insulating the pipe that leads to the spigot and installing a freeze-proof faucet also help, as does installing an outdoor faucet protector.

Most heat in a garage is lost through air leaks in windows, doors, and walls. This is especially true if the walls are uninsulated, which is common in garages. Consider insulating your garage before installing a garage heater to ensure the heat it generates isn’t wasted, making it less efficient.

The average cost to install insulation is around $1,800, but you could pay anywhere between $500 and $4,500, depending on various factors. Some of the things that have a significant influence on your pricing include the following:

  • Size of the area

  • Type and R-value of the insulation

  • Whether your space is finished or unfinished

  • Accessibility of the area

  • Your geographical location

  • Amount of site preparation, especially for blown-in insulation

  • Whether or not you need old insulation removed

The heat loss through a poorly insulated attic when you’re running your furnace or heat pump during cold weather can be as high as 25%. This means you could see significantly higher energy costs to make up for this heat loss. The cost of adding insulation to the attic may eventually pay for itself through lower energy bills. If you decide to add a radiant barrier too, the radiant barrier cost may also pay for itself over time.
