"Everything was great? right up until they made crucial mistakes during installation. They misjudged the placement of the uprights, apparently, so the joint where the sidewall bolts together is not behind a post as it should be, and if we fill the pool the sidewall will fail. They started filling the pool, left for a few hours, and said the pool needed 10? of water before they could cut the liner to install the skimmer. They came back and the pool only had 3? of water, but they cut the liner anyway, in the wrong places, and although they said they?d fix any issues, they haven?t. They also improperly installed the thru the wall skimmer, not using the multiple baffles that keep the skimmer from leaking. So we have a pool improperly installed, a liner we can?t salvage, and a wrinkled mess both in the bottom of the pool and on 50% of the sidewall. We?ve been trying to get them to come back for 2 days. If we have a windstorm, this $5000 pool is going to collapse."

Pool Construction and Installation questions, answered by experts

Most importantly, you should never cut corners when building a pool. Whether it’s an in-ground or aboveground, poorly constructed pools are dangerous to both the swimmers and your property. Leaks can even lead to home foundation damage. While you can DIY smaller elements of pool installation, always hire a contractor to oversee the process.

Customization options may include different pool shapes, sizes, decks, and additional accessories like ladders or pool lights.

Your pool enclosure’s lifespan will depend on the type and materials, but on average, you can expect it to last 10 to 15 years. The climate and level of maintenance will also affect how long your pool enclosure lasts.

If you’re unsure of how your pool is doing in general, you can always get a pool inspection to make sure everything’s running smoothly.

A pool enclosure could be a great decision if you’re considering dedicating funds toward pool remodeling costs. Pool enclosures offer benefits like enhanced security and keeping out dirt, debris, dust, and insects—which helps reduce the maintenance and cleaning needed—and uninvited animals and trespassers. Your enclosure can also provide extra shade and UV protection to make your pool time more enjoyable. In some cases, your pool enclosure may increase your home’s value.

In most states, it is a legal requirement to have a fence around your pool. Laws vary by state and city, so check with your state and local government for regulations specific to you. Additionally, most homeowners' insurance providers will require some type of fence surrounding a residential pool before they provide coverage.
