"I just pay $75 you never know who's going to come out. They do everything electrical. Just about everything is covered except the septic tank. I had an air conditioner replaced. It went great, all I had to do was pay for the freon. He didn't charge e more than what was needed."

"Had the service line from our house to the septic (under the driveway) replaced as it had pulled away from the tank (which we later found was due to the original installer not doing it right). They removed the concrete, replaced the service line and replaced the concrete after. They came out quick for a quote, used a camera to inspect the line (which was nearly half of the cost of all other quotes to run a camera) and found the damaged pipe. Was put on their schedule quick (luckily they had an opening so soon) and they performed quality work. Communication was great from start to end. I can't say enough good things about this company. A+ Service"

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

A septic perc test is done by drilling a hole into the ground, filling the hole with water, and testing to see how long it drains. While simple, the test itself provides a great deal of information about your yard. The last thing you want to do is skip a perc test only to discover your yard doesn’t drain sewage effectively.

Ensuring you have adequate space for your engineered septic system is crucial. You’ll need to reserve approximately 900 square feet for a three-bedroom home’s system. However, the type of soil you have, soil absorption rate, the size of your home, climate, and local zoning code will impact the actual amount of space you need.

Neither system is necessarily better or worse than the other, but one of the two might be better for your needs. For example, anaerobic systems are less expensive than aerobic ones and don’t use power to run. On the other hand, aerobic septic systems don’t take up as much space and are typically more efficient than their anaerobic counterparts.

Good news: You’ll naturally increase the bacteria in your septic tank simply by using it. If you want to encourage more good bacteria growth, stop using products and household cleaners that kill bacteria, such as bleach and harsh chemicals. Never flush antibiotics, and make sure only water and waste go down the tube—not paper products, feminine hygiene products, or diapers.

The average cost to replace a septic tank or install a new system is typically around $7,350, with a broader average range of $5,000 to $12,000. However, total project costs can vary widely, from $5,000 to as much as $22,500. Key factors influencing the price include the size and type of the septic system, the tank material, and the size of your house.

It's important to distinguish between the cost of the tank itself and the cost of the entire system installation, which is significantly more. For the tank alone, costs vary by size:

  • A tank for a one-bedroom house typically costs $500 to $900.

  • A 1,000-gallon tank, suitable for most one- to three-bedroom homes, costs between $900 and $1,500.

  • A tank for a five- or six-bedroom home generally costs $1,200 to $1,600.
