"I am having a full master bath and kitchen remodel done with new layouts in both rooms and knocking out a wall. Evolution worked with me to quickly get a drawing done of the new layouts so that the contractor could get started on the project. They made sure to include me in the process so that the design would be done exactly as my wife and I envisioned. They communicated effectively throughout the process and were always courteous and professional. I recommend them to anyone with drafting needs."

"They are a "Mom and Pop" outfit so took personal care and interest in my car. I dropped it off and they took me home, then delivered the car back to me without my having to take them back to the garage! They had cleaned it up beautifully! Not a speck on that engine either!! Was a beautiful job, and my "baby" sold from the great pictures in a day and a half! I would use them again!"

"I needed for the City permit an engineer to review, recommend changes, and stamp the design drawing of my first rate contractor Bob Post for building a 3rd floor deck on top of my old sleeping porch of my 1910 house. Matthew Holbrook was fast, helpful, and affordable... and I now have a fabulous, safe deck."

"From initial design which started as part of a Big Deal, the project started in July after several months of design, redesign, and more redesign work.  To manage the cost the the owner, Mike Siefert, was willing to work on a split project basis (labor only for some task, full service on other task and homeowner sweat equity on others).

The project required complete gutting of the old bath (walls, floors, ceilings, etc.), and total rearrangement/reconfiguration of all utilities, and expanding  walls into adjourning rooms. There were many hidden issues due to the age of the house, and unique initial construction techniques. So a very iterative and creative design/build concept occurred with Mr. Siefert who was very responsive to our overall design, function, and quality requirements.

That being said, he helped guide us through many compromises that had to be developed, and was proactive proponent on our behalf with those subcontractors and suppliers that we brought into the job to fulfill our portion of the project. The project didn't go without glitches some due to our segment of the project (material selection or timing), and others due to design or workmanship issues, but Mr. Siefert work to make sure the final outcomes were satisfactory and functional. Mr. Siefert also went beyond what was contracted to make sure that outcomes achieved the best for the project. We initially wanted all old moulding retained, but the many layers of paint and brittleness of the wood would have made the final outcome less pleasing, so Mr. Siefert's carpenters replicated the old without additional cost to us. Mr. Siefert personally completed some tasks when it was obvious there was a short coming to our understanding of contract detail.

Overall the project is a valuable addition to our home, and we definitely would use Celebrity Custom Homes ."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Water can seep into porous materials like wood beams, floor joists, and roof rafters within minutes, but they’ll need to see prolonged exposure before you have structural damage. Mold can start growing within 24 hours, and mold can eat away at the structural components over time. Wood rot is more of a concern, though. Wet and dry rot are fungal infections that set in in moist conditions and rapidly deteriorate wood, causing major structural damage within just a few months in some cases.

Absolutely, as it ensures designs are viable and won’t compromise structural integrity.

According to the Earthquake Country Alliance—a public and private alliance in California that works to improve earthquake and tsunami readiness—reports that unreinforced masonry, such as stone, bricks, and hollow clay tiles, is more susceptible to earthquake damage. The mortar between bricks isn’t as stable as other building materials and methods.

No, a structural engineer is not the same as a builder. A structural engineer is an expert in all things related to the structural integrity of a building. The structural engineer is responsible for calculating the correct materials in terms of load-bearing capacity and overall structural safety. Structural engineers do not perform the actual building of the house or other structures. Rather, the builder executes the plans and designs specified by the structural engineer.

You need to hire a structural engineer when building or modifying any component with a structural load in your home. Common situations where you would need a structural engineer include home inspections when buying or selling a home, investigating possible issues with your foundation, beams, load-bearing walls, or chimneys, breaking ground on a new home or structure on your property, and renovating an old part of your home that could threaten any structural integrity. Home additions and bump-outs also require an engineer.
