"I was planning to clean the sofas & carpet when our kids returned to school. With college and high school students home full time, the daily wear and tear had taken its toll. Unfortunately, one sofa & the carpet were stained by ?, forcing me to seek a cleaner before our time at home had ended. I was very pleasantly surprised with how clean everything looked when Prestigious Carpet Care was finished - one of the stains was very dark, and there is only a very slight (1%?) discoloration now, only noticeable if you know where to look. All odors are gone, and everything looks like new. I would definitely hire Prestigious again, and won't wait for an accident the next time!"

"Mark was really great to work with. I had recently moved into a rental home that was not cleaned beforehand, and he worked with me to get in and clean the carpets last minute. They were quick and the carpets look great. I would definitely recommend them!"

"We wanted to replace carpet in a small spare bedroom and a den with hardwood flooring. We bought the flooring at a large local store and agreed for their contractor to install it(not a Home Advisor contractor.) We had the flooring, had removed the old carpet, pad and tack strips and furniture for them, but nobody showed up on the day they were supposed to, nor did anybody contact us about anything. After going back & forth all day without getting any answers about why the workers had not shown up or when they would come, we told them to cancel the install. We then looked for a contractor on Home Advisor as we had had good experiences with their contractors before. We wanted the floor installed within a week if possible. That was asking a lot, but we had already been waiting 3 weeks and had the furniture stowed around the house in various rooms. J Michael Flooring answered our request and Josh came out the next day, looked at what needed to be done and said he could fit in the job a few days later. We accepted and are glad we did. He arrived with his workers on time. They did a very good, professional job, and even consulted us about some material they weren't sure was good enough to use. They kept any mess due to sawing to a minimum, cleaned up partially as they went along, and finally did a thorough clean at the end. Josh came after they had left to check everything and to see if we were satisfied with the work. We gave him a definite YES. He even offered to help us move the furniture back there and then, but we declined as we weren't sure how we wanted things arranged. His price was less than the original store contract even doing some other work that we had planned to do ourselves. We have had flooring work done on a previous house(by a different contractor) and the experience was not the best then. From the way J Michael Flooring did the work we would not hesitate to recommend them for any kind of floor work."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

There could be several reasons why your carpet padding has adhered to the floor. Some of the most common reasons include:

  • There was intentional gluing or stapling to the surface.

  • The polyurethane and floor bonded over years of wear.

  • Pet urine, spills, or other substances leaked through the carpet and created a sticky surface.

If the carpeting in the home has not been changed in a long time, clearing off the padding underneath could be difficult. Pet urine can wreak havoc on carpeting and the flooring underneath. If you plan to reinstall carpeting, remember to use proper cleaning techniques for removing pet urine odors to prevent future problems.

There are a couple of color options to consider when installing carpet in high-traffic areas (like entrances and stairways). Medium-toned colors and patterned carpets can work well in these parts of your home because dirt and stains can blend in easily. Dark carpets will also conceal marks and spills, but they show lint and other light-colored debris. Consider a medium brown or tan for your high-traffic areas. Either way, it’s best to avoid paler shades, like white and cream, which get dirty easily.

Several types of flooring can be installed over existing tile, provided the current tiles are in good condition. Options include vinyl, vinyl plank, laminate, engineered wood, hardwood, carpet, and cork. Among these, various types of vinyl and engineered wood are the most common choices due to their versatility. Alternatively, you can install new tiles on top of your current ones if you like tile floors but want to update the look. Before proceeding with any new flooring, it's crucial to ensure your existing tiles are not damaged; otherwise, they will need to be removed first.

If you want your carpet to last as long as possible, then yes, you need to install carpet padding. Carpet padding creates a layer of protection between the back of your carpet and the floor beneath it, which decreases friction and reduces wear and tear. Aside from that, carpet padding also helps absorb noise and makes your carpet feel more comfortable underfoot.

A transition piece between carpet stairs and wood flooring isn't always necessary. A transition piece separates two types of flooring in between rooms and areas, like carpet and vinyl. Because the carpet on the stairs tucks into the seam, you can’t see the fringes, and there is no need to hide anything. However, you can use a stair cap if your stairs have a nose.
