"Our basement had issues with moisture and an old french drain that was not functioning properly. Another company tried to fix a sagging wall and the moisture, but did not correct the issue. We had Everdry come out and fix the drainage as well as the sagging wall. The basement that had issues for 20 years was resolved with Everdry’s work and we were able to finally finish our basement."

"Chris from Acme was very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. He quickly determined that there was no problem with my septic system’s drainage field, which I was concerned about. I will call them in the future when I need any maintenance for the system."

"Todd and his crew corrected a couple of major water problems in our yard. They installed a French drain and redirected water from two problematic sump drains. The guys worked efficiently, courteously, the jobs looked good. Todd shared photos of the work as he went and spent a lot of time answering our questions. Now I am excited for the next big rain. I would hire them again without hesitation."

French Drains FAQs, answered by experts

It’s possible to snake minor drain clogs yourself, provided they sit within a foot or two of the drain itself, but it’s usually best to hire a professional plumber regardless. Even experienced DIYers have a high chance of accidentally pushing the clog further into the drain using a drain snake or another tool, so hiring a plumber is the ideal course of action. A professional plumber can use camera equipment to locate and identify the clog, and remove the entire blockage to fix your issue permanently.

Knowing the signs can alert you to a clogged drain line. Clogs cause slow drainage or cause no drainage (if there’s a complete blockage). You may also notice foul odors, gurgling noises, water backing up in other appliances on the same line, or a poorly flushing toilet. If you experience any of these issues and think your line might be clogged, call a plumber.

Yes, you can use vinegar to unclog a dishwasher. To do so, combine 4 tablespoons of white vinegar with 4 tablespoons of baking soda and pour the mixture down your dishwasher’s drain. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then pour a cup of hot water down the drain to flush everything out. Finally, run a rinse cycle on your dishwasher to see if the clog is gone.

If you want to avoid using a snake to unclog a drain, or if you don’t have one, try vinegar and baking soda. Pour 1 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1 cup of white vinegar. Wait for 15 minutes, and then run hot water (but not boiling water) down the drain to see if the clog is clear. Repeat multiple times as needed.

Vinegar is better for an AC drain line because it’s less corrosive and won’t damage the pipes. It’s also a safer and easier product to use. Bleach should not be used on your AC drain line because it can corrode your pipes and harm the evaporator coil in your air conditioner.
