"Let's see, where do I start? We had our windows replaced last year by Integrity Windows and Siding. We like the company so much, we hired them to replace our old aluminum siding with vinyl siding. They took off all of old stuff, insulated and wrapped the house, installed new siding, gutter, facia and soffat. We are over and beyond pleased with the work. Howard, the owner has a perfect name for his business, 'Integrity'. He is honest, not pushy and returns phone calls immediately. We could not have gone with a better company. Highly recommend!!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Concrete log siding is not the same as fiber cement siding. Fiber cement siding is made from a mixture of cement and cellulose fibers, while GFRC is made from cement, glass fibers, and polymers. The materials are similar in their durability, longevity, and curb appeal, and the main difference is that concrete log siding is available in more styles that resemble traditional log siding. Fiber cement is also less expensive, with materials costing around half what you’d pay for concrete log siding.

Traditional clapboard siding, particularly with panels made from wood, is not a significant insulator on its own. However, you can keep your home cooler in summer and warmer with "insulated clapboard siding," which is a type of vinyl clapboard siding with a built-in foam insulation. Consult a local siding contractor to determine whether insulated siding is right for your home.

Professional installers typically recommend caulking between siding boards, but it depends on the material. With Hardie board and fiber cement siding, manufacturers don't recommend adding caulk because it can trap moisture in the joints or discourage flexibility in fluctuating temperatures. Consult your local siding contractor about caulking best practices before adding any to your home’s exterior.

Yes, vertical and horizontal siding both come in the same materials, including wood, vinyl, aluminum, and engineered wood. The material you choose can significantly affect your siding’s overall price, lifespan, insulation properties, and maintenance costs.

While almost nothing is completely fireproof, metal siding is extremely fire-resistant. It’s non-combustible so while it may eventually melt in extreme temperatures, it won’t actually light on fire itself. This can add a layer of safety to structures that wood or vinyl siding can’t, making it attractive for industrial use. Metal siding can significantly slow down the spread of a fire, giving extinguishers and firefighters a much better chance at saving the structure and containing the blaze.
