"It went extremely well. I got an excellent estimate and they came in under that. The workers were professional, thoughtful of the property, and at the end, you would not have known they were there. My property was immaculate. I would hire them again in a heartbeat."

"If you are looking for a quality roof, siding and gutter contractor, this is who you'll want to call first! Chuck was very knowledgeable in helping me to deal with the whole insurance claim process. He took pictures from the rooftop to show me the damage, which I was able to forward to my agent. He was very good with customer service. He had a crew that worked very efficiently to finish the job on time. They were courteous and respectful. They cleaned everything up when they were finished. They used high quality materials. My roof went from the worst on the block to the best on the block. My neighbor was so impressed with the work, that she hired the M Construction to replace her roof. Hers looks great too! Other contractors just wanted to get the eagle view of the property to see how much the job was worth and try to set up an appointment with the adjuster. Some wouldn't even go up on the rooftop to view the damage. If you want a full-service contractor, that cares about his customers, this one is definitely a good one! I am very happy that my roof was done right, worked within the insurance claim budget, and looks great!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Different types of siding provide unique aesthetic and structural features, with each material commanding its own cost. Availability of materials and shipping costs also factors largely into the cost. The common types of siding materials include:

  • Stucco: $7–$9 per square foot

  • Wood: $1–$15 per square foot

  • Engineered wood: $1–$6 per square foot

  • Aluminum: $3–$6 per square foot

  • Fiber cement: $5–$14 per square foot

  • Brick: $10–$20 per square foot

  • Brick veneer: $3–$10 per square foot

  • Stone: $7–$30 per square foot

  • Stone veneer: $5–$11 per square foot

Both vinyl and metal are very popular siding options, and it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of each before making a decision for your home. Vinyl has a lower price point than metal and is easier to install, but metal siding is more durable, longer-lasting, and requires much less maintenance. The upfront costs could save you money in the long run.

The cost of wood siding varies by the type of wood. Engineered wood siding tends to be in the middle of typical costs ($3 to $7 per square foot for materials). Hardwoods, for instance, can cost $5 to $20 per square foot for materials alone, but cedar wood can be as cheap as $3 per square foot.

New siding improves curb appeal, insulation, and protection from moisture and pests.

No, you don’t need to use the same siding around the entire home. Using different siding for different walls can actually increase the soft value of your home. Many homeowners opt to add vinyl siding on the sides of their home not facing the street, opting for higher-end siding materials like stone or wood for the front of the house. Stone veneer siding can be a cost-effective option for homeowners who like the appearance of stone, but not the cost.
