We provide structural engineer services for individuals. This typically involves coming out and assessing the condition of a structure and/or its components and determine how to address any structural issues found. It is our mission to provide complete customer satisfaction from start to completion of a project. In order to understand the needs and expectations of our customers, we take great care to work and communicate with every customer in a professional manner. Please understand that we do not do free estimates as we are not contractors. Our work involves coming out to a site, making observations, and taking any required measurements. Following this, an analysis is performed and conclusions are formed to determine how to proceed if any structural deficiencies are determined to be found.

"I had a very good exchange with Michael on ideas and options."

"I've used Domicile Consulting for several homes, after initially finding the company on Angie's List. Dan Cullen is exceptionally knowledgeable, objective and insightful. Prices are reasonable and well worth the investment. Dan takes copious pictures and compiles them in a handy report with recommendations. Highly recommended."

MB Design is a boutique architectural design and construction company offering personalized design and construction services tailored to maximize your budget. We specialize in Architectural/Interior design and Full Home renovations.

"If you are deciding between contractors, stop thinking about it and hire Martins, I promise you will be happy with your decision. It is hard for me to put into words what an unbelievable job Martins did with our built ins and how much I enjoyed working with him. My wife and I were nervous because we had never done any sort work on our home and finding Martins was a godsend. In all honesty we are very picky and sometimes hard to work with (just ask our wedding vendors haha) but I cannot think of one thing we would have change in our experience working with Martins and how the built ins turned out. He is very good at what he does and just a very honest guy that you can trust with your project. He cared about how everything would look and function almost more than we did if you can believe that. His attention to detail was impeccable and is exactly what you want when you are making a big change to your living space. Every one of our friends that come over are in awe of our new built ins. Martins is a true artist!"

We are a small shop west of Chicago. We do all types of welding jobs. There is no job to big or to small for us. Cost is determined by the job. There is no travel charge. And We offer free estimates, so call us and let us at least bid on your job.

"Stan's did an excellent job communicating about this project and completing the work. They have a very professional office. They responded quickly to my request for a quote, work was scheduled and completed shortly thereafter. The work itself was great, I cannot even tell where they cut and replaced the posts that anchor the railing to the concrete."

"AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Here is a list so you can read everything we’ve been through with this company. Spent over $11,000 in 2020 to have interior drain tile and a landing drain connected to a new sump pump Had water enter through the doorway by the drain 3 times since 2020, with the most water coming inside September of 2022 Called Safeguard in September 2022. Safeguard refused to even check the system, sent us a quote for $1,800 more work to “fix us up” without even checking anything on our property Had a 3rd party company out to inspect the drain that Safeguard refused to check. Discovered they breached our contract and connected the drain to village stormwater tiling without our consent or the consent of the village. Have never received as much as an apology. Instead, Safeguard blamed us saying the drain was clogged with leaves, and that is why we flooded. This was disproved by Roto-Rooter. Update as of 3/3/2023 AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Instead, Safeguard blamed us saying the drain was clogged with leaves, and that is why we flooded. This was disproved by Roto-Rooter. The company refused to fix anything and did not respond to requests until I submitted a formal complaint on the BBB website exposing the breach of contract Have spent months (5) trying to come to an agreement we are comfortable with in order to have them out to fix the work. They do say they will repair the work for free, BUT… They tried to get us to waive their liability should the village fine us for the stormwater connection. There will be NO WARRANTY of this free work. So, if the concrete starts breaking a few months after the fix, they’re not liable. They claim they did not connect the drain incorrectly, and they are doing this fix to appease us (even though I have my contact that clearly states what was to be done, and a signed letter from the president stating that they did in fact do something else). As a result, we asked for a simple 1 year work and materials warranty just to ease our fears about something breaking in the future. Their response- WE WILL NOT ALTER THIS CONTRACT. Bob, John and Karen have been nothing but awful to work with. They are argumentative at best. The amount of times sarcasm and ALL CAPS have been used in emails by Karen, as well as the amount of times my husband has been screamed at over the phone or in person by Bob and John are immeasurable. As soon as you write them a check and they finish the work, they’re done. Even if they blatantly breach your contract (like with us), or the work is faulty, I believe they will not fix or stand by anything. They claim they have one of the strongest warranties in the business- I assure you this is a lie. If they do work and it never breaks, consider yourself lucky, because if something goes wrong they will not help you in any way shape or form to solve the problem, in my opinion. Instead, they will blame you as the customer and ignore you until you become too loud to ignore. Do yourself a favor, spend a little bit more money and go somewhere else that actually backs up their work and treats their consumers well. This is not that place. RUN AWAY. "I hired Ricardo to put together architectural drawings for a full gut rehab of a 3 unit apartment building including full interior demo and installation of all new plumbing, HVAC, electrical, finishes, etc. Throughout the process, Ricardo was very helpful with answering any questions I had; during our conversations I could tell how passionate and knowledgeable he is about his work. As promised, he delivered the final architectural plans and navigated us through the standard plan review process until we were provided with a building permit from the City of Chicago. I would definitely recommend Ricardo and his team and look forward to working with them again on the next project."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

A structural inspection report will include a detailed description of the structural engineer’s findings, applicable photographs, and recommendations to correct the issue. The contents of the report may depend on the scope of the inspection but might also include a time and cost estimate for recommended work to correct any structural problems found during the inspection.

Yes, you can put a doorway in a structural wall; in fact, most exterior doors are set into structural walls. The project is a little more challenging than installing a door in a non-load-bearing wall because you need a structural engineer to assess the wall and make sure it’s safe to create a wall opening. Your engineer’s report will include instructions for your contractor on how and where to install additional supports, like steel headers above the door, to distribute the weight above to the wall on either side of the door.

Accurate measurements, sturdy materials, and seamless integration with other structures.

Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.

Yes, floor joists are essential structural components. They support the weight of floors and everything on them, transferring loads to the foundation and walls. Properly installed joists are necessary for maintaining strength, stability, and structural integrity.
