"Hired AllStar Painting & Contractor to stain my 6' wood privacy fence. I'd started to do the job myself, but after starting the job and doing hours of work and nowhere near finished, realized I'd rather have a pro do the job. Johnel from AllStarcame to my house, reviewed my project, gave quote very promptly. His price was competitive with others who gave me a quote. Today, 2 painters showed up as promised 8am, and were FINISHED with the entire job in 4 hours! They were polite, neat, respoectful of my outdoor plants, did a wonderful job (better than I could have done, plus in much less time). They're pros! They have lots of experience, let them handle it! I would hire this pro again for an indoor painting project, and highly recommend them for s project similar to my project. Competitive pricing, they do a great job, are professional, neat and courteous."

"I highly recommend Chroma Art and Paint. Very professional from start to finish. The lead estimator was very thorough and took the time to explain his recommendations for the project in order to achieve the highest quality result. The estimate itself was extremely detailed so that I knew exactly what the project would cover and the cost. No hidden surprises! The crew and the project coordinator were very punctual, courteous, and professional. They kept everything well-staged and organized and finished the job quickly. They were very responsive to any questions I had throughout the job. Awesome experience and the beautiful end result!"

"The pro was experiences and did a good job over all. He painted each room as we requested and offered suggestions to our liking. He was careful to cover our furniture, and clean up after completing the job. The job was to be finished in 3 days, but it took 5 days, because he was working alone up until the last day. I would recommend He to others"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

Ipe wood can last up to 75 years with minimal maintenance because its own oils help to preserve it. However, to get the most out of your Ipe wood deck, you should perform some routine maintenance, including regular cleaning, sweeping of leaves and debris, and rinsing spills with a hose. It’s also important to repair any deep scratches as soon as you spot them and reseal the deck annually to protect against scratches and scuffs.

Two coats of stain are ideal for the best protection and aesthetic appeal. However, if your decking is made of particularly dense hardwood, you may only need one coat. If you want an intense color, two coats are ideal.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.
