They initially forgot about our appointment, but came soon after we called to remind them. They were here about an hour and cleared a large clump of roots from our pipes, resolving the issue. The cost was $175, which I thought was reasonable."

We are a family owned and operated company. I run it with my husband and son's. My husband was in the sewer and drain cleaning business for over 30 years and I decided to open our own business. We try and keep our overhead as low as possible, so we can give our customers a reasonable rate that's done right. There is no special fee for "trips" or holidays. We do use contractors for our plumbing,as we our not plumbers.

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

For the most part, choosing between 30/50 psi and 40/60 psi is based on your water-pressure preference. However, it can also depend a little bit on your house—if you have older plumbing, a lower water pressure can be easier on the pipes (and a bit more gentle on your well pump). 

The lower 30/50 pressure is usually enough for a single-story home, but you may want 40/60 if you have multiple stories, as the extra pressure helps water flow smoothly up to the second floor.

The depth of a septic tank’s drain lines is between 18 and 36 inches underground. These pipes are filled with perforations and surrounded by sand, gravel, or a combination of both, as both materials help filter wastewater. While some pipes are buried closer to the surface, this can create problems unless the soil is compact and doesn’t shift much. 

The septic tank needs to be pumped at least every three to five years. If the septic tank is too small for the property, you might find it needs to be pumped more frequently, and during an inspection, a septic company may recommend updating your system to a larger septic tank. While 750-gallon tanks used to be standard, septic tanks with a 1,250-gallon capacity are now more common.
