A-1 Safety Chimney Service, Inc. is a family owned and operated company that has been in business since 1989. We pride our selves on great service at a fair price. At A-1 all of our technicians are certified with the Chimney Safety Institute of America, and we are fully bonded and insured. We are accredited members of the Better Business Bureau, members of the National Chimney Sweep Guild, we hold the best of Lombard award for 2012, 2013&2014 and the best of Glen Ellyn award for 2012 .

"BEWARE of this company!!! Everything started out great, the staff was initially incredibly responsive and came out for an estimate. Their estimate was reasonable and competitive to a 2nd bid I had received, and I was offered a $500 discount and a commitment that the work would be done in 1.5 days if I signed the contract in 24 hours. I went ahead and signed the estimate. That is when the problems started.... The project manager (Moses) was completely non-responsive as to when the work would be completed. They were provided access to my home, yet never contacted me to let me know when they would arrive or when work would be completed. 3 weeks later, I still did not have a response on work completion and Moses stopped answering my messages and would not answer my calls. Finally, after calling the office (which is always closed and has an outdated voicemail response that hasn't been updated since Oct. 3rd) , I received a call from the technician. He tells me that work is complete, and that he'll be doing a walk through in a few days. Today, he calls to tell me he is there , but he doesn't know where the main gas line is and he can't figure out how to get gas to the fireplace. Ok, interesting... I call my gas company because we have working hot water and have been paying our gas bill and they tell me gas is entering the home. I tell this to technician, who tells me, well, that's too bad, they don't know what the problem is and that is my problem to solve, the work is complete on their end. How is work complete, if you have hooked up a gas fireplace , but can't figure out how to get gas to it? Isn't this something you would confirm BEFORE doing work? I can't get in touch with anyone in charge at the office and I am honestly shocked that anyone could have had a positive experience with this company."

Family owned & operated. No subs. Cost is determined by the job. No travel hours service. Charges call to inquire for Angie's list member discount. Award winning.

"Had a chimney cleaning and inspection in early Oct. Both Sol and his assistant Margaret were friendly and professional. Sol is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions, and I felt very comfortable with going ahead to have his company install a chimney liner. Greg and Gary came about 10 days later to do the installation, and were also friendly, professional and respectful of my home. They politely answered more questions and cleaned up the area better than it was before."

There's no question that a wood-burning stove or fireplace requires careful maintenance for safety's sake. Burned wood creates creosote, and this highly flammable by-product is deposited on your flue liner and smoke chamber over time. When there's too much build up, all it takes is one solitary single spark to ignite this creosote and cause a chimney fire. You don't want to put your home and your family in danger, but you have every right to enjoy your fire place or wood-burning stove. You'll find this danger can be alleviated through regular sweeping and cleaning of your chimney, and our trained experts will do it right every time! Contact us today to get rid of the soot and build up to make sure your chimneys are safe and clean! We proudly serve all of the Southwest suburbs in the Chicago area.

"Bob showed up right on time and performed a Chimney Sweep. We had issues with smoke coming in the house in which he determined the issue and offered an inexpensive repair. In addition,we had him fully convert to a gas fireplace with the existing fake logs we had. He set everything up really nice and painted the interior walls and it looks great. The work was fast and very reasonable. Highly reccomend."

Super Service Award Winner for 2016. Family owned & operated. Please call Larry at (847) 404-1687! I'd love to speak with you about your contracting needs!

"Had a leak in my roof by the chimney. Roof is 8 years old. The previous roofing company that installed the roof did not flash the chimney, and this was the cause of the leak. Gustafson Roofing came promptly to my house, identified the problem, offered me a written estimate the next day, and came three days later with a 5 man roofing crew and all of the correct materials to reroof a section of the roof, flash the chimney, and end the leak. They did very professional work, completed the job, and cleaned the site. The price was the same as the estmate. Would use them for a new roof in the future when that day arrives!"

Your one stop shop for all your fireplace needs: Gas Logs (contemporary and traditional), Glass Doors, Inserts, and Mantels. One of Arlington Heights’ oldest Family owned & operated businesses began selling patio furniture 70 years ago. Northwest Metalcraft has remained a leading retailer of wrought iron, teak, wicker & envirowood patio furniture; BBQ (Weber, Solaire, Broilmaster & More); fireplace equipment, Fire Pits and mailboxes (address plaques) and more. Additional DBA - Northwest Metalcraft Inc. Additional contact names - Daniel Mayer & Dawn Selleck.

"I bought a new patio table from NW Metalcrafters to replace an older one that was no longer usable. The salesperson Brian was very helpful with the sale, letting me take home color samples to match the new table's finish with my old chairs that I had planned to keep. Several days after the table was delivered, I noticed that one of the legs was bent at a welding joint. I sent photos to NW Metalcrafters and they agreed right away to get a new table from the manufacturer as part of the warranty. Andrew was helpful in arranging and scheduling pickup of the old table and the delivery of the new table."

They installed interior doors, recaulked my tub & refinished my wood floors & installed new trim. "Went with Kerry roofing to replace the leaking roof and leaking chimney on my mom's house. The chimney repair went great. They redid the entire top, installed a new liner, and tuck-pointed a good portion of the wall on the house around the chimney which was in also in need of repair. No more leaking chimney! The roof didn't go quite as well as the chimney work. The actual work was done on schedule but there were issues with it after they were done. But Tony was more than happy to get things fixed. Twice I called about somethings I saw that didn't look right and he was able to answer my questions (I'm not a roofing expert, was just comparing to other roofs) and then had a guy out to fix things when he determined that yes it wasn't done right. I realize this was a complicated roof, with many steep gables, but would expect an established roofing company to be able to handle the job, so was a bit disappointed there. But I appreciate that Tony is always a phone call away and able to answer my questions and send someone out if needed. They stand by their work."

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

Roofing material costs vary depending on the type of material you choose and whether you install it yourself or hire a roofer. Shingles are the most affordable option and cost between $70 and $400 per square, metal roofing is between $100 and $1,500 per square, and concrete tile is between $300 and $1,000 per square.

Tar and gravel roofs last an average of 30 years, which is longer than the average lifespan of many other flat roofs. The gravel on top of the waterproof membrane helps protect the roof from UV damage and physical damage, so if you keep your roof drains clear and carry out annual roof inspections to catch issues early, you could see up to 40 years of useful life from your roof.

If the bay window extends beyond your existing roofline, you must add a roof or a small “skirt” to divert storm water and prevent water damage. The window roof can match your existing house roof, or be finished with copper or other decorative materials. Most bay windows have a roof with complete flashing regardless of their placement to prevent leaks into the home.

You can leave a tarp of a roof for up to 90 days if installed correctly. Tarping a roof is only a temporary measure and should not be a substitute for roofing repair or replacement.

The best type of roof vent depends on the size, type, and construction of your roof as well as the environmental conditions in and around your home. In many cases, an active ventilation system that draws in fresh air and exhausts air out through the attic is the most effective. Active ventilation systems include roof ridge vents with baffles, turbine vents, and soffit vents that are used together with another type of vent.
