"We contacted Hansen Brothers on the recommendation of our roofers to install the electrical outlet for a roof heat cable and to discuss our front steps project. Until this point, it was difficult to get anyone to accept the front steps project. Masonry contractors would not handle cement and cement contractors would not handle masonry. We needed a general contractor to help and Hansen Brothers came highly recommended. Bob Hansen sent his son over to check on the electrical outlet needs and Bob came to assess the front steps project. He listened to my requests and introduced us to a metal worker who would fabricate the new handrails. We made a railing selection and then we discussed the timing to complete the project. In the interim, Bob's son Eric installed the roof power outlet and back door sconce satisfactorily. We started the big project of the steps replacement mid-September and it took several weeks to complete, there was much to coordinate to get this project done properly. Bob was in constant communication about the progress. We had a bit of a slow down waiting for the cement contractor to deliver the concrete, but once that happened, everything else came together. The final electrical pieces and masonry work were completed shortly after the steps were done.  Everything turned out beautifully!  Bob's experience and familiarity with Chicago homes was evident. He gave sound advice and provided some excellent suggestions with our projects. Our neighbors have also commented on how well things turned out. I would indeed contract with Hansen Brothers again for my home projects and will recommend Bob Hansen to my family and friends. I feel we have finally found a trusted general contractor who is responsive who takes pride in his work.

"Lake View Window cleaning arrived on time. They were very professional.answered all my questions and worked with great speed at the same time being very efficient. I have used Noe Lomas for the past 3 years. I couldn't be happier. They work quietly, booties on their shoes so not to soil carpets and put window covering back on windows after they replace the cleaned screens. I would highly recommend them to friends and neighbors."

"I have used them before and they are always prompt and do a good job. They came out in the morning and did part of the job and then had to wait for the decks to warm up and had another team come out to make sure the best possible temperature was available to stain the deck. I have used them to clean my gutters and remove ice dams in the past and they always do an excellent job."

"From our initial meeting through to completion, they were on time and responsive. The crew was courteous, communicative and addressed all my questions and concerns. They even replanted six boxwoods that were displaced by the new construction. The deck looks beautiful! It did take a bit longer to complete than indicated at the beginning -- due mostly to waiting for the building permit and receiving the cedar wood order. I would definitely hire them again."

"Went awesome. Martha and team great. The kitchen is great attention to detail on the cabinets. Had a hiccup on color for deck and it was not problem I choose another color and just had to pay for paint. They cleaned up mostly everything along the way too which was helpful. They worked long and hard to finish the job. They were trustworthy and I left them in my house more than once or left the door open for them to come in morning when I wasn’t home. Trustworthy! Martha was lovely, to work with! They did so good I’m Having them back next week for two smaller jobs! Thanks guys"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Putting lattice under a deck will create a polished look that allows for air ventilation. You can also store items underneath as the lattice provides privacy and protection from the weather. You can also put lattice under a porch to create a polished look in the front of your house.

When staining a deck, don’t skip surface prep, avoid staining damp or dirty boards, and don’t apply stain in extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions. Never overload the wood with a stain, as too much can cause tackiness or peeling. Also, don’t forget to test a small area first to ensure the color and finish look right.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

Yes, you can build a pool deck yourself, but it takes precision, a lot of time, and many specific tools. You’ll need to create a deck plan, be careful with measurements, cut each piece of wood, secure the pieces properly, and ensure the deck meets building codes. Building a deck around a pool is a rewarding DIY, but it’s time- and labor-intensive, so thoughtfully consider your abilities and the time you have before embarking on this DIY.

Your deck may look or feel fuzzy after pressure washing because the high-pressure spray tears some wood fibers as it removes the outer layer of dead and discolored wood. This fuzzy effect is a normal part of the pressure-washing process and will go away on its own in a few weeks. You can opt to spot-sand your deck if you’d like to remove it more quickly.
