"as installed in 2010, which is correctThe plumbers did arrive about 1 hour and 40 minutes into the 2 hour window.  I explained the problem.  They asked me to show where the drain went in the basement.  They estimated it was about 55 feet from the kitchen sink that would need to be cleaned.  They said they would perform a whole house plumbing inspection while there.  While one plumber worked on the drain the other checked for natural gas leaks, there were none, and checked the water heater.  They told me the water heater was installed in 2010, which is correct.  He also told me the anode rod needed replacing.  I googled anode rods and found 2 references from plumbing supply companies that verified everything he told me.  They also sold me an enzyme to maintain the drain.

"They ran into some additional problems but still did the work at the initial price quoted. I had used this company a couple times before for other plumbing needs, so I called them again. They were courteous and easy to work with. They worked with my schedule. I have an old home that needed a new clean out trap. "AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

"Wedge Construction (Ken McCallon) was very prompt and courteous and the fact that he was finishing a project that we started ourselves did not deter him. He even took the time to correct some things we initially didn't do to his standard which was very much appreciated.  We explained our goal was to have the new aluminum railings  match an existing fence and he made it happen. Wedge Construction wasn't the lowest bid we received but he took my calls or promptly returned them.  Some of the other bidders were very slow to respond and I had to "chase" one bid down for almost two weeks.  I pretty much knew that contractor wasn't going to get the job but I always like 3-4 bids to make sure everyone understands the scope. As a rule I eliminate the lowest and highest bid and Wedge Construction was right in the middle.  His bid included purchasing materials, tearing out the old wood and removal.  His workmanship is guaranteed for two years which was another great advantage that no one else offered. 

While Ken was working on the deck we had another small project going which required a new bathroom vanity to be set.  I asked him if he was interested in doing that for us and he took a look and gave me a very reasonable quote and did it the next day.  Once the onyx was set and plumbing installed he came back and trimmed out the bathroom as well.
