Foundation Recovery Systems, founded in 1992, is a subsidiary of Groundworks, a family of companies that offers superior, proven solutions for your foundation repair, structural repair, crawl space encapsulation, dehumidification, and concrete leveling needs. They currently maintain offices in Kansas City, Moberly, Springfield, and St Louis. Foundation Recovery Systems is a recognized accredited member of the Better Business Bureau and devotes its years of experience, industry knowledge and specialized training to help customers protect their homes or commercial buildings from water damage, concrete sinking, and foundation failure.

"As far as we can tell, the work was effective at stabilizing our foundation, and the on-site crew led by Luke was great, informing us of their progress along the way. However, we expressed in advance our concern about protecting some of our landscaping. We were assured the crew would have boards to cover landscaping on which removed dirt would be piled. This turned out not to be the case. I’ve had quite a bit of expense and labor to restore landscaping that was damaged during the work. This damage could have been avoided. Foundation Recovery sends out $500 coupons to advertise for their work. My attempts to contact Joe and FRS to honor even a part of the $500 coupon to help defray my landscaping costs have gone unanswered. Our salesperson, Joe, was not present during the work and has not been responsive to our followup inquiries. We are very disappointed in the poor customer service from Foundation and its representatives. I cannot recommend this company based on their failure to address our up-front concerns, lack of response to our followup requests, and the false advertising that is associated with the coupons."

"Brad and his crew came out to help us with water coming into our basement. They sold us on a drain system and dug a perimeter around the majority of our basement, added rocks and pipe and then sealed it back up with cement. They also installed a new sump pump in the same location as the old one. Unfortunately their system has not stopped the water coming into through the cove joint. We’ve had Brad out twice and he insists that their drain system is only designed to catch the hydrostatic water coming from underneath. The sump pump hardly ever does off, even with a flooded basement. This is not correct as a properly installed system should be catching water from the cove joint and sending it through the system in the floor and to the sump pump. I would never use or trust them again. We are out thousands of dollars and still have a flooding basement."

"In October 2019 , Drainage Team installed a 40-foot French drain along the back our house and an 80-ft by 4-ft swale in a bed on the hill behind our house. The French drain was installed to address an occasional problem with water coming up at a specific spot in our basement after very heavy rains. This problem occurred even though there appeared to be a perimeter drainage system in the basement that was connected to sumps. The French drain was piped under our asphalt driveway to a storm drain on the left side of our lot. The outlet of one of our sump pumps was connected to the French drain piping instead of being discharged onto the driveway where it tended to form sheets of ice in the winter. Downspouts in the back of the house were also connected to the French Drain piping to direct them to the storm drain. The swale was installed to improve an existing drain that directed water from the hill to a storm drain on one side of our lot. The existing system frequently overtopped during heavy rains and water ran down the bed, sweeping mulch out of the bed. The project was completed on time and the job site was left in a very neat condition both while the project was ongoing and after it was completed. The French drain seems to have worked perfectly. We have not had a drop of water in our basement in more than two years. The swale improved the flow of water but it is still overtopped in the heaviest rains. The water flowing down to the storm drain tended to flow along the edges of the dry creek bed instead of through the center and this led to some erosion which we remedied by placing more rock on that side of the swale. The total cost of this project was $7840. I am happy with the performance of these systems and would hire Drainage Team again if a similar need came up."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Statistics show that 98% of basements will experience some form of water damage over time. However, that doesn’t mean all basements will experience severe flooding. The best way to prevent a water-damaged basement is to keep up with home maintenance and have proper drainage installed outside your home to direct water away from the foundation. You can also consider building a flood wall around the house if you live in a flood-prone area.

Brick is designed to absorb moisture, but it is also designed to let it evaporate as well. So in general, the goal shouldn’t necessarily be keeping moisture out but making sure it has the room to breathe. If you have excess moisture getting through your brick wall, it’s more likely that you have a crack or other issue at play that a typical sealant won’t fix. So, instead of investing in sealant, try repairing your brick wall instead.

In nearly all cases, you are required to install a vapor barrier in your crawl space. However, local regulations will change based on the local climate and the crawl space's susceptibility to moisture. Even if a vapor barrier is not legally required, it is often a good idea to keep your crawl space dry.

Several factors dictate if you should waterproof the interior or exterior of your basement. Waterproofing the exterior of your home is a great option if you use your basement for storage, as it provides the most protection from water and water damage. If you prefer work done outside of your home versus inside, exterior waterproofing is best for you. However, interior waterproofing is often less expensive since the area is easier to reach and requires less labor.

You should take care of any sign of water in your basement, whether it’s dampness after heavy rain or puddles of water on the floor. Besides potentially causing a health hazard, the moisture can damage your home’s structure and foundation. Furthermore, mold can grow quickly and spread throughout the rest of your home. With mold remediation costs ranging between $1,200 and $3,400, it’s best to avoid mold issues by fixing the leak.
